Publisher's Summary

The Sebastians own this city. Hell, they own the whole world. All I want is one little piece of it, a corner that I can call my own.

So when my boss runs away to “find herself”, I seize the opportunity and dive head first into the Sebastian’s glamorous universe. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted - fast paced and high stakes - and, even though I don’t fit in, I’m excellent at faking it.

Until I come face-to-face with the man in charge, Scott Sebastian, the arrogant playboy heir with the mind of a devil and the body of a god and a mouth I can’t stop thinking about.

He’s infuriating. He’s a distraction. He’s the man who wants me in his bed as much as I want to be there.

And, if I get too close, he’ll be the one person who could expose me for what I really am - a fraud.

DEVOURED IT.. THEN DISCOVERED A DUET CLIFFY😩

I loved loved loved this very addictive story and greedily devoured it in a day.. but sadly there was no warning beforehand of its Duet two-book status.. or the CLIFFHANGER in between. Tess, the overlooked Assistant who borrows her boss’ power suits while she is away and, behind her back, Tess gets it in her head to pitch to SIC.. owned by the all-wealthy Sebastians, to get sponsorship for a Charity very close to her heart. And Tess lives in a nerve-wracking, sensual and sexy, emotionally straining, whirlwind rags-to-riches Cinderella type life for a short while with the Prince of the Empire. Yes it was oh so very wrong, yes it was all kinds of stupid and yes it was a gamble that has maybe paid off. Mostly though, yes it made for a delicious listen when Tess realizes the nameless handsome blue-eyed hottie whose apartment she woke up in that very morning is facing her across the boardroom. Turns out his name is Scott Sebastian.. and yes, their electrifying chemistry is still sparking between them. And it’ll continue to sizzle through each board meeting, each hot n heavy private office encounter and each secret raunchy rendezvous. However, the deeper and closer Tess gets to Billionaire Scott, the more she sees that there’s a warmth under his Player’s infamous persona - and the deeper she falls for him, the harder it is for Tess to burst their perfect bubble with her shady shameful truths. But, when the ‘proverbial’ clock inevitably strikes midnight, it’s too late and her fairytale comes crashing down when reality sucker-punches her with a shattering blow. And, as her shoe drops, all Tess’ hopes and dreams of a happily ever after is suddenly ripped away from her. Because Scott had secrets too. Great story, awesome build-up to the romance, forbidden boundaries deliciously crossed and the foundation is set for another wonderful romance. Laurelin Paige writes such drool-worthy, dirty talking, sexy, handsome, filthy alphas and Jacob Morgan brought him to life perfectly in the duet-style narration when Tess and Scott were together. It’s Tess’ PoV, it’s her putting everything on the line for a Charity she’s desperate to help and it’s Tess I feel will be left broken-hearted when the OMG dust has settled after the cruel cruel cliffhanger. Emily Roya did a fantastic job making this a very enjoyable and entertaining listen.

WORTH A CREDIT? OMG yes, but I should’ve know it was a Duet because Ms Paige loves a cliffhanger ending. She lures you in with off-the-charts chemistry and sexual tension between rich complex characters. And with this, there’s great banter, drops of humor, sizzling sexcapades, emotional conflicts of the head vs the heart, business boundaries stepped over and thrills, suspense and teases as the climactic cliffhanger loomed. Let’s hope that this fairytale will end in a sighworthy HEA in book 2 out in November 🤞🏻. Bonus outtakes at the end by the two talented narrators were a giggle too.

I stopped listening at chapter 12

This was a boring story. And I would have preferred for Jacob Morgan to have more parts. Returning asap!

Jacob Morgan was perfectly mischievous!

Even though this was basically Working Girl, it was a pretty good story. There were enough twists and surprises, and Jacob Morgan can have me listening to pretty much anything. Tess and Sebastian come from different worlds, and although they met under shocking circumstances, they have some seriously strong chemistry. I knew there was a cliffy, but it was a pretty good one.

Now to see how everything falls back into place w/the sequel.

Working Girl retelling with a satisfying twist!

I purchased both audio and ebook. This is my review for the audiobook. 🤯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
In the beginning, I couldn't get over how similar the book was to one of my favorite 1980s flicks, Working Girl, starring Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford. But midway through I realized it was taking a completely different course. I absolutely loved this book! Every. Delicious. Moment!
The narrators were fantabulous and portrayed the characters so well, bringing them to life in a way where each and every emotion played on my nerve endings. And not in a bad way. I devoured this book and moved onto the next immediately, buying both audio and eBook.
Tess and Scott are drawn together. You can feel their connection leaping from the page and the narrators' voices.
If I could rate this 10 stars, I would.
5 sizzling-hot stars!

Wow!

Get me the next book.

I wish I had not known that this was a cliffhanger. But after skimming some reviews before downloading this people were complaining about a cliffhanger. I get the frustration of that when the next book is not out, but because I knew there was a cliffhanger I think it made me more suspicious. I figured out what was going to happen kind of early in the book. So that was a bummer but it didn’t mean the angsty, twist your stomach in knots feeling wasn’t there at the end. It was.

And now I can’t wait to finish this review so I can start the next book.

These types of books are hit and miss with me. I usually am not a big fan of the storyline centering around a lie. It makes me feel anxious and I usually don’t agree with why they are keeping the secret to begin with. But this one hit right in the middle. It didn’t really bother me what she was doing but at the same time, it started to annoy me that she didn’t just come clean.

That’s all I’m saying, I need to start the next book.

Oh wait, I LOVED the bonus outtakes at the end. I wish every audiobook did that but especially with the dual narrative. It cracked me up.

Poor girl takes a chance in career and love

This is part 1 of a two part story with a minor cliffhanger that takes all of book 2 to resolve. The duet narration is great though; this succeeds because of the performers and makes for a giant improvement over sing narration or even dual narrators.. Emily Roya and Jacob Morgan had seamless dialogue and were well matched in their performances though more point of view from the Scott character would have made for a better balance. The story had an interesting medical back story and in typical Laurelin manner the passion between the main characters is very hot and at times extremely graphic. The main female character Tess is kind, and sympathetic but also fairly ambitious and willing to take advantage of opportunities while she herself is being taken advantage of. A very modern romance with ethnic characters and erotic moments plus a little humor.Looking forward to part 2.

Great narration and character chemistry.

Laurelin Paige is such an outstanding creator of characters that are intriguing and stories that keep you on your toes. This being the first part of a duet really sets things up nicely while having the end be a slap in the face. Thank God I already have the next audio ready!! The narration is on point! Emily Roya is new to me and I really like her voice and performance. Having this story be performed duet style is a great treat as well.

Another hit by Laurelin Paige

Caution...cliffhanger at the end and waiting for Man in Love....This was a fun book to listen to....the duet narration was fantastic and enjoyable. Scott Sebastian just oozes sex and Tessa is all like putty when she is with him. I wish she was stronger and bolder...and can keep her control. overall, another amazing duet by one of my fav authors

Good story & good narration. Book 2 please!

I came across this mainly because of Jacob Morgan, I will listen to anything he narrates. I really enjoyed the story and love dual narration, wish more books have dual narration. I don't think this book would work as well as it did without it and Jacob's voice as Scott of course ;)

I loved Tessa's character and her passion for her job and the charity she pitches to SIC. You can really feel for her internal struggle between doing the right thing between Kendra, the charity and Scott is concerned.

The book ends in a massive cliff hanger which I wasn't expecting until about a minute towards the end. I now need to go get the next book to see what on earth is going on. My heart is already having so many feels.

Oooooh this one is good, like really really good!

MAN IN CHARGE is the first in the duet and wowzers this book is good. Tessa is desperate to prove she can hack it in the business world, so when her boss heads off on a wee trip, she steps up. Let the faking begin. She is telling lie after lie but all for the greater good, so that’s ok, right? Scott Sebastian is a formidable businessman who wants Tessa in his bed and boy does she want to be there. The only problem is that if he finds out who she really is things could most certainly tumble down around her and then all her work would have been for nothing. This book is dirty, like deliciously so and I am here for the dirty role play, the crawling across office coffee tables and the other shenanigans that these two get up to. There are plenty of twists and turns but the ending, holy plot twist batman, I did not see that coming!!!

This audiobook is fan-freekin-tastic! I haven’t heard Emily Roya narrate before and she did an amazing job of showing all the sides of Tessa. The emotional, the funny and the down right sexy siren with the filthy mouth. I actually really enjoyed the duet style narration which I haven't listened to much before but Jacob Morgan popping in throughout her chapters was a nice touch. You can always rely on a superb performance from him as was the case here. He shows us the cocky Scott Sebastian who is tied up in knots over this girl. Both Emily and Jacob have great timing and the book flowed effortlessly.

It’s the first time in a long time where I stayed up real late just listening because I couldn’t turn it off!

5 stars!

What a listen!
this book has twists and turns!
download book one and two at the same time because the ending to this book is CLIFFHANGER, that you will want to start the next one straight away!
funny, quirky and HOT!
these narrators are brilliant together. and the addition of some out-takes shows that their chemistry through out the book was from the laughter and fun they had making the recording.
brilliant.
it was well written and a brilliant story line to follow.
