Publisher's Summary

MAN UP! Becoming a Godly Man in an Ungodly World was written by pastor, author, and speaker Jody Burkeen. His god given vision to challenge men to stop being spiritual sissies, MAN UP and accept God's challenge to be "the light of the world" inspired him to put this vision in an audiobook to share with others. Jody's self-described "Damascus Road Transformation" led him on a journey to search the scripture to find what he had been missing his whole life, Jesus Christ. In this journey, the Word if God took over in a way he never expected. Searching for men in the church to help in him in his walk, he found very little help and in the process found men that needed the same kind of help. "Church had become a religion, not a relationship" says Jody in his audiobook. The relationship he is talking about is the relationship with Jesus Christ and it seemed as if men in the church had become complacent and not living up to the challenge to live a separated life.

Some parts helpful.

What did you like best about Man Up!? What did you like least?

There are some really helpful metaphors in this book so that alone is worth the price however most of it is directed at men who are already married with kids and in a stable church and job situation. I wouldn't recommend this for men who are single, unemployed or dealing with the more gritty aspects of life such as addiction, anxiety, depression and the fear of man. That said, if you're married with the kids and the white picket fence and go to church every Sunday, this book could well be of help.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Started out promising but drifted off into areas that don't apply to many men, especially those outside the church or new to Christianity. I came to this book hoping for help dealing with fear, finding courage and rising from the pit of addiction and depression. He starts to discuss alcohol, drugs and pornography but then moves on to other things. I think there should have been whole chapters on these.

What three words best describe Angelo Di Loreto’s performance?

Well-read, good emphasis where needed.

Do you think Man Up! needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes, one for new Christians who haven't yet found a good church or those who are single, unemployed or struggling with things like alcohol and pornography.

Any additional comments?

Despite my criticisms there are still some worthwhile gems of wisdom in this book, mainly in the introduction.

Good Book for the younger Christian Man....

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Good book for young Christian Men.

Has Man Up! turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not really, -

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Good personal testimony of author's life.

The delivery does not work for me, the repeated word "Sissy" gets old, through it usage in this auidio book.

Could you see Man Up! being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

NO.

Any additional comments?

Again, this is a really good book for young men under 40 years of age, IMHO.
