Publisher's Summary

This book is an erotic gay romance. It contains explicit language and lots of steamy sex between two hot guys. For listeners 18+ only.

Blake Davis is in the closet. And he's going to stay that way. Because if his father finds out he's gay, Blake could lose everything he's worked so hard to achieve during the last six years as CEO of Trinity Publishing, the fastest rising star in the publishing firmament. Not that coming out wouldn't solve a couple of problems. Maybe then his father would stop trying to set him up with yet another empty-headed, social-climbing girlfriend. And better still, Blake could stop using that escort agency when he wants a night of hot sex with a cute guy.

Will Parkinson has had a tough life so far, but he's back on his feet. Okay, so he's working as an escort - with benefits - to pay off his student loans, but that does have its advantages, such as the really hot guy who hired him. Yeah, Blake rocked his world last night - several times. So imagine how Will feels when he arrives to be interviewed for his dream job as PA in a publishing company, and the guy who's hiring is...Blake.

And then things get really complicated.

Great Story!

Really enjoyable story (though I would have tossed that secretary out on her butt so fast, I can't believe how compassionate they all were).

Great MCs - they were both truly interesting and when they got together, heck yes! The Epilogue is super sweet too.

I'm going to say... I did the audio version of this book and the narrator was terrific with his accents. Between the Australian guy and the women and all the different British accents, he was great. His sex voice however - just *ugh* horrible!

The narrator was horrid during the sex scenes!

I don't know why the narrator chose the inflection or tone or whatever he chose during the steamy sex scenes, but it almost ruined the entire book for me. Plus, I really hope that's not his real sex voice, because......

Cornell Collins is Excellent! Very sweet story!

This was one of the first books I read in m/m romance. I loved it! It’s a Cinderella/Pretty Woman story and it’s got elements of a rags to riches story like Annie, as well.
I loved that Blake, while closeted, is totally accepting of Will’s/Alex’s profession. Once they become a permanent thing, of course, he won’t share (don’t worry!) but before he can claim that right, he doesn’t try to make Will feel bad for supporting himself.

There are a LOT of things the reader has to accept as “happy coincidence” – the book being a hit, Will being his assistant, everyone at work being cool with “the gay thing”. But, beyond those issues, it’s a really sweet and very sensual story.

Something I love in romances – a couple who switches! And an alpha male who likes to be tied up!

This was a very sweet and wonderful story with many layers of happy in it’s HEA.

Audio

Cornell Collins does a FANTASTIC job with this. He gave Will the deeper voice – which I didn’t picture in my head – but it totally worked. His British accent gives this that extra level of authenticity that you don’t get when you’re not from there. His pacing and emotions are excellent and overall this was a great way to experience this story.

Soothing voice, well read

Book review

I really enjoyed this book (Then again, I haven't read a book by KC Wells that I haven't liked). The MCs were sweet as well as sexy. While I do like it when MCs have second thoughts/change their minds, as most people do, I was a little 'put-out' whenever a certain 'issue' was brought up. The issue that some people had with the 'bitchy' female characters in the story, come on... if the women were all hearts and roses, you'd think it wasn't realistic! Anyway... where did I put book 2?

it was ok

The book started promising and the main characters had great chemistry but in the end I couldn't get invested in the story. The plot was ok just not very original. And I did not appreciate how Blake handled the situation with Melissa, it was childish.

Office Romance

This was a sweet love story about finding love and living your truth. The characters were likeable and the plot, although a little cliched, was enjoyable. The sex scenes were hot with some delightful kink. K.C. Wells is a wonderful author and her writing style was smooth and easy to read. The narration was well done and delightful.

Nice Start

I was a little hesitant to pick up this series because I didn't want to be preached to about "how it is important to be yourself, no matter what other people think" and Blake's fear of coming out of the closet was the main struggle between these two characters. But KC Wells again made the journey enjoyable and the story was so much more. We get to see into the lives of several characters from future books which is nice but the ending is what makes this story great. Cornell Collins is a great narrator and really makes the book come alive.

All is not what it seems.

3.5*

This was an overall entertaining listen. I liked the 2 main characters, Blake and Will. They were good together, but sadly Blake was holding back because he didn't want anyone, least of all his father, to know he was gay. I felt bad for him, but at the same time wanted him to acknowledge who he was so he could live his life to the fullest. It always makes me sad when people have to hide their true selves. Will's story was a little heart-tugging. Blake hiding made me feel even worse for him.
Things wrapped up pretty quickly and a little too easily, for how long things had been going on.
One aspect of this book I found frustrating is how the 2 main female characters were portrayed. In quite a few m/m books it seems like there always has to be that token female who is some kind of trouble-maker, in one way or another. I don't know why that is. And here we had 2, which to be honest, was a little much.

I've really liked Cornell Collins narrations in all the other books I've listened to by him, this one just fell a little flat for me. His voice for Blake was great, it was Will's I had a little trouble with, as well as when he did the sexier scenes. They reminded me too much of Silas from A Seditious Affair by KJ Charles. I loved how he sounded in that book- Silas was a gruff, rough & tumble blue-collar character and the deep grating voice worked for him. It just didn't work so well for these two characters. I mean, I enjoy how much he gets into the part, but I felt Blake and Will were a little too refined for how he sounded.

Making It Personal

The first 3 chapters of this book are so boring. I almost stopped listening. It gets better but there is so much office work grind description and uggghhhh so boring. And the conflict turns out to not be a real conflict so that’s a bit unsatisfying but whatever. It’s fine.

as great as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

Great story

I absolutely love this book and it is a go to read. Certain scenes stick in my head, and I want to relive them again and again. So the writing is always going to be 5 stars for me.

As I know the story, I didn't need to read the book while listening (hearing difficulties). For the most part, I enjoyed the narration by Cornell Collins. He is clear and pacing is good. I didn't quite feel his voicing of Will. I would have preferred a slightly lighter voice. But that's just me.

Fabulous romance with hot sex, strong men and HEA

I absolutely loved this book! The men, Blake and Will, meet up in an unorthodox fashion, but its lust at first sight, and before long love, of course!

The story has everything: tough beginnings, a superb villain, restored relationships, a wonderful cast of supporting characters, spicy sex, misunderstandings, a proposal, the happy ever after we yearn for in romance-landia, and plenty more besides.

The narration is super, with excellent characterisation and emotive interpretation.

The story is engaging from the outset, I adored both main characters and was rooting for them from the get-go. I read/listen to lots of books. Lots. And it was refreshing to enjoy an English book, set in London, narrated well and so relatable, I felt like it was so real I could have been there.

I was given a free copy of this audio book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
