I HELD MY BREATH AS EACH CHAPTER WAS REVEALED

What an exciting and electrifying listen this was right from the get go as Newspaper Editor Harper first meets the mysterious sensual Software Mogul Jacob Latimer who soon introduces her to his dark sexual appetite.. which includes artfully placed black silk ropes. But Jacob is holding back secrets.. and one secret will connect him to Harper when they were young innocent teens - when an unbreakable bond was formed between a kidnapped Harper and the young boy who risked everything to save her from a terrible fate at the hands of a monster. However, Harper doesn't recognise her skinny young saviour in the handsome present-day businessman she's now falling for.. until slowly things start to unravel.

Jacob has gone to great lengths to hide his humble origins from the world so when he accidentally meets Harper again he thinks he can have it all and keep her from the disturbing memories of their locked-together pasts.. bitter-sweet memories he never wants to forget. Once Harper was everything to him, as he was to her, and Jacob just can't believe that she doesn't see who he really is.. behind the secretive Billionaire.. behind his fit body, shaven balls and alluring knots. But when the truth is eventually revealed both of them will be shocked and shaken with all the heartbreaking revelations.

This multi-layered listen was so addictive as you nervously wait for Harper to recognize the innocent boy she once loved in the kinky alpha man she's been helplessly falling for.. and to find the answers to his other secrets too. Jacob was intimidating, impenetrable and glacial.. but behind the aloof image lay a tantalizing man who had heart, heat and warmth. There's scorching hot detailed sex scenes with bondage, twists, suspense, romance, passion, good character growth and some sweet tense flashbacks to the events that first brought them together. Dual POV storyline that was awesomely told by one of my favorite narrators.

Worth a credit? YES, Beth Kery has weaved together a fascinating powerful love story with roots in the past as well as the present - I clung on to every enticing word, savored all the seductive unfolding drama and enjoyed every single second, minute and hour.

True Love Never Dies

This story is both heartwarming and heartbreaking but true loves conquers all. Beth authors an amazing story of two young adolescents survive a traumatic event and develop a life long connection that the adults around them didn't understand. After two decades of learning to live without each other, fate intervenes and gives Jacob and Harper a second chance to rekindle and build on what they started as preteens. This is a complex story about what the mind does to help survive a great loss and remember a great love. This was a fascinating story that kept me intrigued to the very end. The first few love scenes were just too flipping long, I started to lose focus before it got to the good stuff.

Maxine Mitchell is a really good narrator and she did a decent job with this book. I actually like her male voice better than her female voice.

Most definitely worth a credit.

INCREDULOUS.. INCREDULOUS.. INCREDULOUS?

What did you like best about this story?

Like the new twist on romance book. It's still following a formula that all romance books use but still a bit new. Overall good.

Any additional comments?

I like audible books because I can multitask while I listen. I will listen 2 or even 3 times if I enjoyed it. Enjoyed both main characters.

This was my second listen and was astounded by how many times Ms. Kery used the word "Incredulous" or some form of the word. It was very distracting after awhile and then became outright annoying!

Suggestions..skeptical,mistrustful,suspicious, questioning or doubtful, to only list a few.
Needless to say this is what I'll remember about the book. That's too bad because I did like the characters.

Good story ruined by too many sex scenes...

I listened to the entire story and like it - a tale of how childhood trauma shapes our adult visions of ourselves. But I got tired of the extended sex scenes that began in the first chapter. I won't buy buy any additional volumes in the series. But if you love too much sex, know yourself out!

Embarrassing

Well, I certainly learned why I should not Listen to a "bodice ripper" on an audible book. The sex scenes took up most of book and I just got tired of it. I would jump to the next chapter hoping for relief and to find a story. Nope...there was a story but there was so much sex the story just kind of got lost.

Could not finish it

I was really trying to give this book a shot but from the very beginning it just didn't make sense. The main character reacts & thinks very oddly from the word go & the story is just not that great. And the narrator left much to be desired. Don't waste your time on this one. I almost always finish a book once I've started but at chapter 5, I'm out.

Prepare for a Poignant Tear-jerker

I loved the story and the performance was excellent. I think I would have died from the cliffhangers if I had to listen to the parts separately!
There were some pretty steamy scenes... so just a heads up
But their story is compelling and realistic. I'm not ashamed to say I ugly cried at some parts.

OMG

This was the first book by Beth Kery I've listened to. I was mesmerized from the get go! I could not wait to see how the story played out! Now that I have, I'm sorry it's over! And Maxine is always great! I can't wait to hear it again. Maybe pick up on anything I missed the first time! Story was absolutely great! Sex scenes were sizzling! The characters were believable! Worth a credit? You better believe it! I will be seeing what else Beth has written!

“chaise” lounge and c’mon... really?

Two intelligent successful people meet years after sharing a horrifying experience in their teenage years. One of the two doesn’t doesn’t remember much about the event and doesn’t recognize the other as the person who she shared the traumatic events with. Ok, well maybe, for the first little while but for weeks? I never understood why the other person never found the time to come clean and explain that they had history, it was obvious that the truth would eventually be revealed. Oh wait, they never had the time because every time the two were together for more than 5 minutes they ended up having sex, it didn’t matter if they were talking about opera or having an argument everything led to sex...and what are the odds of this chance meeting happening, years later, on the other side of the country, “Of all the gin joints...” and all that. With respect to the “ch” sound in the word “chance” that’s not the way the word “chaise” is pronounced in “chaise lounge”. The narrator fumbled that word, which wouldn’t have been a problem except Beth Kery is obsessed with this type of furniture and used it about 30 times. Our narrator mispronounced it without fail every time....aaaargh!

The story line was interesting, the narrator was a little annoying and I listened to most of the book at 1.25x speed. I probably won’t listen to it again but it was worthy of 3 stars.
