After breaking from life with the Pack, mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate–former Beast Lord Curran Lennart–are adjusting to a very different pace. While they’re thrilled to escape all the infighting, Kate and Curran know that separating from the Pack completely is a process that will take time.

But when they learn that their friend Eduardo has gone missing, Kate and Curran shift their focus to investigate his disappearance. As they dig further into the merc’s business, they discover that the Mercenary Guild has gone to hell and that Eduardo’s recent assignments are connected in the most sinister way…

An ancient enemy has arisen, and Kate and Curran are the only ones who can stop it–before it takes their city apart piece by piece.

Kate: “He has the worst timing- always”
Curran: “It’s his superpower.”
Even intermissions move you closer to the end. Book 8 takes a breather after the previous book’s climatic meeting of Kate Daniels and her near-god father Roland.

“Do you remember me now?”
This story mostly focuses on Kate, Curran, and Julie as they adjust to suburban life away from the Pack. They are soon wrapped up in a mystery involving missing Eduardo, their were-buffalo friend. Along the way, Kate starts to learn what her magical claiming of the City of Atlanta really means. We are treated to new magic and new beings, including ghouls and Djinns. But the best parts of this book involve old characters in new situations: Curran trying to be a friendly neighbor and Roland the Almighty digging the onion rings at Applebee’s.

The shorter length of the graphic audio format was appreciated, especially given the forced separation from most of the Pack. It felt like much of the extended cast of the series got only cameo moments. There’s also an extended period of recuperation and the shorter graphic audio helped to get through that and back to the mystery. Not anywhere near my favorite book in the series, but a solid supernatural mystery nonetheless.

Werebuffalos, ghouls, and djinns, oh my!

This is one of my favorite series and I’ve read this series a minimum of 3 times, and the dramatic version was great. I enjoyed the movie in my mind. Adventures are shifting now that Kate and Curran are on their own. But are they really on their own? One character I wish had more face time in the books is Luther, I feel he can be like Roman and have his own story one day. He’s fun and full of magic, it might even be fun to see him get in trouble with some djinn. Production was great and enjoyed all the narration of all the characters.

Awesome Series!
