Publisher's summary

In Made for Love, Fr. Michael Schmitz presents the Catholic teachings on same-sex attraction and same-sex "sexual" relations.

He begins by giving background information regarding the different worldviews of the human person, the philosophical ideas of nature and purpose, the differences between objective and subjective truth, the principal of noncontradiction, and the fallen human nature that resulted from the original sin.

He then discusses, in great detail, the nature and ends of human sexuality and the nature of true love, while, in a compassionate and nonjudgmental way, explaining the flawed nature of same-sex "sexual" relations.

While this audiobook is intended primarily for those who have same-sex attraction and their family and friends, its presentation of the compassionate truth of Catholic teaching on same-sex attraction will be of great benefit to everyone in today's society.

Intelligent, thoughtful, and well presented

The synopsis explains this content better than I can. I would note that the presentation goes much deeper than, "Love the sinner, not the sin." I would also note that it is more about all sexual moral teaching than anything. Fr. Mike does here what he does with all of his content: He takes serious and complicated matters and makes them accessible without dumbing them down.

I would recommend this to anyone interested in moral teaching or understanding what Catholics and Christians are called to believe. It is as much a mirror for a heterosexual person as it is a lens to empathy same sex attracted people.

The Loving Response

Loved this book so much I had to get both the digital and physical copies. It does such a fantastic job of not only defining the teaching of God on the subject of SSA (and any/all attractions), it does it with compassion and caring.

Fr Mike does a wonderful job in showing us the loving response to those who experience SSA I will use this book as a resource whenever the subject comes up

catholic teachings from an informed caring soul

Excellent. Loads of compassion but no compromise. Well reasoned all the way through the book. Many bible passages explained with love and care, not just do's and don'ts. God and Christ centered. The truth spoken in love... challenging.

We are made to Love

I love Father Mike Schmitz. He has such great straight-to-the-point teachings. This book truly helped me understand how the Church views same-sex attraction. It also showed me how to love my brothers and sisters in Christ even more.

really helped clarify Catholic church teaching and how that translates into loving behavior that honors the inherent dignity of all people without compromising the Truth and natural law

Authoritative and doctrinal approach.

In an extraordinarily unpastoral fashion, this priest fails to smell like sheep. He does not talk about horrific history of church action against LGBT members. He talks about how command to chastity is not repression, but rather is something everybody is called to do in order to follow Christ because it is the way of love. Yet, with the oblivion and bliss of his self proclaimed heterosexuality, he does not take note of the power dynamics which are at play which cause a man denying self for family due to personal choice as opposed to LGBT folks who would deny themselves out of church demands, which is not their choice. The church demands chastity of LGBT as a “sacrifice” without any other end than Heaven after death: not for marriage, not for ordained ministry. Power dynamics makes the difference between proposing self denial as being a sacrifice and self denial being actual repression/oppression. Unless you’re looking for reasons to treat yourself or loved ones differently for being LGBT folk, I suggest you read Fr James Martin’s “Building a Bridge,” or watching the recent documentary “Building a Bridge.” If you’re desire is to embrace the circular and authoritarian arguments that continue to divide LGBT folks and the Catholic Church, then Michael Schmitz is the book for you!

Unrealistic

I found this book to be an insult to humanity in general. I am not gay but if you are, please know that there are so many people who will love you for who you are - not who the author wants you to pretend to be.
