One step up from the Hardy Boys

Despite one "Roger that" too many from the book's main protagonist, I enjoyed this listen. When I purchased the book I didn't realize that it was written for a teen audience. Then again, maybe it wasn't, but that's the way it turned out. It was a sale book and since my wife grew up in the Jersey Shore setting, I thought it was worth the risk. Simple characters, a simple though somewhat contrived plot and simple dialogue make for a relaxed listen. A few years back I reread one of my Hardy Boys books to see what interested me back in my pre-teen years. One reread was enough to satisfy my nostalgia need. If you wonder what the Hardy Boys might be like dropping "F" bombs, then give this book a try. And if you're 16 years old, this author and his books are for you.

Entertaining

The Narrator Jeff Woodhouse is excellent. I really enjoyed his voices that suited each character perfectly.

Read the series in order!

It's tough for a sequel to equal a strong first book, and this series is no exception. The plot takes an awfully long time to get going as there's no actual murder for quite a while. Also, I didn't really relate to Danny and his young friends all that much; to be brutally honest, they seemed a bit boring to me. But, okay ....

I give the book a fourth star as the villain was actually quite interesting, complete with an ending that one cannot reasonably expect, even if it's rather over-the-top. More importantly, the author makes the point that a) bullying can have consequences later, even if seems "fun" at the time, and b) so can rejecting your kids for not being what you deem "successful" early on. There's also an angle regarding Ceepak's discovering talent in a young man who seems anything but a success on the surface.

Wanted to throw in that while there's nothing gory or grisly here, one scene did fill me with complete horror: Danny stumbles across a young kid, around 5 in a wheelchair (presumably with developmental issues or Downs Syndrome, not really gone into), being bullied by a group of young men in their late teens who are going to have "fun" pushing the " 'tard" down a steep ramp (the kid is absolutely terrified). Call me a wuss if you'd like, but I was incredibly rattled for quite a while that such an event was even possible in real life.

Seapack is back

Danny, a fledgling police officer, and Seapack, a former MP and now a veteran detective, are on a mission to stop a sniper in their sleepy little town of Sea Haven. The sniper is smart, invisible and, for some unknown reason, targeting Danny's group of lifelong friends. Not one of his friends, in this tight knit group, can think of any possible reason that could have invoked this brutal unsolicited attack. Sea Haven is a cool, little costal town that relies on it's summer guests to see them through the colder seasons, so in order to keep the situation quiet Seapack and Danny do thier best to keep the investigation under wraps. However, in a small, gossipy town that is not always an easy thing to do.

A fast pace, good mystery with the return of all of the series regular characters. Jeff Woodman does an outstanding job narrating as usual, so if your looking for a clean, relaxing series this is a fun new fangled kind of cozy.

Awesome Series!

This series is the perfect combination of murder mystery and humor. I have listen to books 1 and 2 and they make you smile, laugh and think. There's enough of a murder mystery to keep you intrigued, and enough humor and goodness to make you happy. There's no dark underlying evil feelings in these books, they are beautifully written and make your heart feel good. I will continue on with the whole series, and thank the author immensely for providing such wholesome entertainment.

So says John Ceepak's novice partner. They are two cops in a small beach town on the Jersey shore. Ceepak is an ex-military by-the-book tough guy with a tender heart. The story is a good mystery, full of fun, but not devoid of evil and horror. Otherwise, how could there be a happy ending?

Ceepak quickly becoming one of my favorites!

Would you listen to Mad Mouse again? Why?

No. I don't listen to any books twice. There are to many I haven't heard to want to hear one twice.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ceepak is by far my favorite character. Ceepak is the kind of cop I like. He is what you would want all cops to be like. The narrator really does a good job with him as he sounds I would imagine him to sound. In the end I just like his style.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I listened to the first and the series and found this one to be just as good. It was a good story with believable characters and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but I did not.

If you want a fast paced, interesting, funny cop mystery than give this series a try.

Another one to love!

I really enjoyed it - I thought this one was different because it seemed the mystery was solved so early in the book but....of course, another twist! Graberstein never fails to entertain me and Woodman is a great reader!!!! Bought the next book in the series a few minutes ago!
