Publisher's summary

Single dad. Second chances. Meet Mack in the newest standalone novel from New York Times best-selling author, Penelope Ward.

They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?

So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.

At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.

Everyone wanted a piece of the hot, single father of the sweet little boy.

I became a woman I didn't recognize, someone riddled with jealousy, because they didn't know that - to me - he was much more.

They didn't know about our past.

He'd chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.

As my friend, Lorelai, so eloquently put it: "Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls." And I was suffering in pain from my case.

I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with someone else just to protect my heart.

Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.

And soon I might be breaking all the rules.

Author's note: Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.

DID ANYONE SEE WHERE THE BALL WENT?

.. because Penelope Ward, with the help of two talented narrators, hit this second chance little beauty so far out of the park it'd take divine intervention to ever find it again.

From the moment Francesca (Frankie) got tingles at the familiar voice of Mack after 7 years apart.. so did I because yes, there was instant chemistry between them - but there was so much more.. history - and I couldn't wait to find out their story. Then it became clear, as the dual POV storyline slowly unravelled itself, that it was a bittersweet love story of an innocent friendship that turned into love at the worst time in two people's lives.. when Frankie was an awkward nerdy College Student and while Mack, her drool-worthy College roommate/fantasy man, was flying home weekends to spend time with his girlfriend. Neither one owned up to their deep feelings, neither one crossed that invisible line.. and neither one was prepared for Fate's evil twist.

So their time wasn't then.. but could it be now? Trouble was Frankie had moved on and, for the past two years, had been happily living with her loving boyfriend.. and Mack? well he made it clear what he wanted, and had always wanted.. her. Mack wanted to be in Frankie's life again - yes he'd settle for her friendship.. but he wanted so much more and told her, showed her and successfully began to rekindle those once heartbreakingly doused flames. However, Fate wasn't quite done with them yet and threw them another few vicious curveballs to knock them off their destined path.. and it very nearly worked.

Penelope Ward managed to capture the loss, heartache and regret felt by both Mack and Frankie, expertly described the difficult dilemma Frankie now found herself in and the hopeful anticipation and dread Mack felt - both then and now. Mack was a good Dad and a good person who'd done the right thing, faced the consequences and he paid the price.. his heart. Frankie was a kind thoughtful Teacher and a caring girlfriend who'd once loved a boy who'd broken her heart so could she risk everything by giving it to him a second time? A well written love story where love was never the issue - just nasty twists and nasty people. This had a few flashbacks.. and heartfelt scenes, promised pledges, tender words, passionate sex, angst and a deep love that took the passing of time, as well as a whole lot of effort, before it could.. and would be forever.

Worth a credit? YES and if you too like a second chance romance.. then I'm sure you'll agree after listening to Frankie and Mack's love story - that Penelope Ward's aim, focus and skill as an Author.. along with Andi and Sebastian's awesome narration, have knocked this one out of the park. I felt this couple's pain, got twisted up in their emotional journey.. and reJOYced in their HEA's.

Can I Be Frankie for a Day?

This story had all the hotness without the juvenile drama -- love it! And how lucky is Frankie that she has two hot guys that want her for life. I love this story because there were grown ups acting like grown ups and handling difficult situations as adults do. This listen had it all flawed characters, developed plot, real conflicts and oh so hot sex. I was sucked in and stayed up late to finish to the very end. Penelope Ward is rising on my list of favorite authors.

Two of my favorite narrators teamed up again to make this another amazing listen. Andi and Sebastian took a good story and made it a wonderful listen. But then they can make almost anything sound good.

Absolutely worth the credit. Looking forward to the next story by Ms. Penelope.

Not what I was Expecting!

Great book! Not what I expected at all. Yes it was hot, yes is was a love story but it also had some unexpected twists that I didn't see coming and some that I did. I love a single dad romance book so I was looking forward to this book and she didn't disappoint.

Narration was perfect as always with these too!

could have been better

I got this book because of the reviews but I honestly only finished because I love almost anything narrated by Andi and Sebastain. The characters are weak and the relationship between Mac and Frankie is annoying. (Spoiler alert) It also sucks that a good man got hurt and frankly ticked me off that Mac never cheated when he was in a relationship but Frankie cheated on her boyfriend with him. It doesn't matter that she had decided to leave, they were technically still together when she slept with Mac. So disappointing.

Better the second time around..

When Frankie has to find a new place to live, a friend of hers is happy to help. Mack is an existing roommate that lives at the residence.
Frankie and Mack become good friends after Mack's humor brings Frankie out of her shell.
Some flirty banter fuels the atraction and turns up the chemistry between these two.
Unfortunately Mack has a girlfriend and the timing just isn't right.
One drunken night leaves these two friends angst filled enough to finally admit their feelings for one another, but more complications bring the would-be relationship to an abrupt end.
A heartbroken Frankie has no choice but to move on.
8 year's later Frankie is a teacher at a preschool with a caring boyfriend when
Mack walks into her school with the intent of winning her back.
Flashbacks explain a lot about what went wrong for these strongly bonded friends that still pine for each other.
But getting to that sweet HEA spot won't be easy with new obstacles in the way. This stand alone isn't any less complicated the second time around.
Two of my absolute favorite narrators bring it in the first person with alternating POV's performance.
This book was credit worthy for me.
For the most part it was a funny and sexy book.

FRANKIE FOUR EYES!!

WOW! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS STORY!! It was SWEET, FUNNY, had lots of CHEMISTRY, and was one of the BEST second chance audios I've listened too. ALL the positive reviews are SPOT ON, and I really enjoyed reading Carolyn's, Ursula's and Jonella's reviews.

Penelope Ward does it again, she is such a talented author! Not only was the story well written, fun to listen too, but the characters were lovable, flawed, and had a realistic quality to them. The past and present scenes were written in a manner that helped the flow of the story instead of hindering it, which I appreciated. And Oh, Wow Mac….his character was totally swoon-worthy, an awesome dad, and the children stories he wrote about Frankie Four Eyes were so cute, and I loved the hidden message in each of them. I really admired Frankie's character! She was far from perfect, and some of the unfortunate things that happened to her were HILARIOUS! I laughed and blushed right along with her.

With two of the best narrators, Arndt and York, Mack Daddy was truly a delight to listen too. This second chance love story is sure to please any romantic at heart! Well worth the time, and credit!

This book is amazing!

Mac and Frankie definitely had ups and down but the twists and turns made for an awesome plot. I couldn't put it down. I was up until 1am listening until it was finished. I barely noticed the time passing. I'm not typically a fan of too much drama since books can be an escape from hectic busy life... but this was drama filled in a tasteful way. Loved it.

Great friends to lovers romance!

This audiobook was very entertaining, with a great story and two of the best narrators in the business! The hero and heroine are roommates in college, along with another friend. She is introverted and shy, while he is funny and outgoing. He has a girlfriend, who works for his overbearing politician father. They have started to fall for each other and spent a lot of time just talking. Finally, on the day before he is leaving to spend a semester doing graduate work in DC he tells her how he feels and promises to break up with his girlfriend and come back to her soon. But that becomes impossible.
Then 9 years later, the heroine is a first grade teacher. It’s the beginning of a new school year and suddenly she turns to see him in her classroom, where she finds out his son is one of her new students. The rest of the story is both sweet, sad and has a lot of emotion. I don’t want to spoil the story, but it’s definitely worth listening to. I love the writer’s style and her books always are memorable.

Disappointed

SPOILER ALERT

What happened to Victor? He was the best thing that ever happened to Frankie. I guess we can't help who we love. Unless Victor is the main character in the author's next book using this book to describe his character prior to that, It appears that Frankie not only threw him over with only passing regard, she used him by living in his house even after she decided to be with Mack.

Also, it appears to me that Frankie wasn't very observant. First, she must have seen her birth certificate unless she never applied for a license, passport. Example - she told Victor that he had never asked her to go to London just prior to him leaving. Even if he had, it would have taken weeks to get her passport, and she would have had to show her birth certificate to prove citizenship). She had never looked at her birth. certificate?

These aren't the only things with which I had issues, but suffice to say that while this is the first book I've read by this author, I wouldn't read another.

All angst, very little steam

This is a good story with great narrators, but it should have been half as long. Very angsty, and the few steamy scenes were very short and just not that hot.
