Great suspenseful listen

This is a unique story, told extremely well. The ending is sad but realistic. Not all stories have happy ending. The performers were great.

Mommy Dearest for the New Gen

4.25 stars for this creepy little family drama, Lying In Wait, by Liz Nugent. So, Nugent is fairly well known right now for another creepy little family drama that gained popularity in 2023, Strange Sally Diamond, and Lying in Wait, although completely different, lends cred to her ability to craft some disturbing AF stories and present them to you as though she were delivering pot roast for Sunday supper! This story starts out with a bang and just keeps going, although I never was quite sure where we were going - literally until the last page. I couldn't figure out what the author was trying to do - was it a murder mystery? Or something more like strange literary fiction with very thoroughly developed cast of characters who all get a chance to tell their story through multiple POV narration. Or, was this good old fashioned dysfunctional family drama? It's a little bit of all of the above and nothing like those tropes at all. I personally enjoy weird fiction when it is done well and Nugent is the New Queen of Strange Fiction, IMO. It is at times dark and then almost disturbingly funny at other times and none of the narrators are wholly believable - so be prepared to be off kilter till the end. I loved it!

One of the best audiobooks I've ever heard.

This is me reading the first chapter: Omg. O.m.g. OMG! Then the story develops like the Matterhorn ride at Disneyland, pulled uphill in the dark and come whirling down again screaming OMG! It's a psychological thriller with gothic elements. The three actors who narrate it are engaging and talented and bring this otherwise insanely well-written book to life. It should be a movie. A really good movie. And I hope everyone buys all Liz Nugent's books and she keeps writing for years and years.

Sort of reminds me of an Alfred Hitchcock ending. Story kept me listening and narration is good.

This book is in the top five of the hundreds of books I've listened to on audible. There isn't a wasted word. I'm now a fan of Liz Nugent and I marvel at her ability to draw you in to her devastating imaginary world.
