Engaging story

This story has an Intriguing storyline and characters. It delves into the mind of a con-artist.

Don’t Trust Me

I listened to this after listening to an excellent mystery thriller with multiple character voices. The narrator was to breathy and voiced pitched up. It annoyed me enough that I kept having to stop listening. All of that being said, this is probably not a fair review due to the book previous to it.

Wrong Choice of VO

I don't want to be mean but this woman's voice is one constant whine. I tried 3 times to finish this for Book Club and I literally can't. I'll just wait for the movie. please re-record with someone else.

Lucky?

A con artist, Lucky wins the lottery. I kept listening to this book because I really wanted to know what was going to to happen to the lottery ticket. The ending is a jumbled mess with no resolution for the characters, who were only sorta kinda likable. I didn't hate this book, but I didn't love this book either. I had different expectations for the wrap-up which may be leading to what I feel and say about this story.

I want more of Lucky’s survival. I’m sure will begin to live, soon. Liked it for distraction from loss.

A Little Too Lucky

How lucky is Lucky? (Lucky Luciana, get it?) She's so lucky she hits on a 30-something million dollar lottery ticket. But she can't cash it in because she is wanted by a) the law, for cheating seniors out of their retirement nest eggs, b) the cartel whose laundered money was stolen by her grifter partner in crime and in bed who took the money and ran, and c) his evil mother, who was also responsible for landing her grifter "father" in prison and who wants to find her missing son, not because she cares about him but because she wants the money he stole.

Meanwhile, Lucky herself wants to find her real mother, not because she wants to know who her real mother is all that much, but because she hopes her real mother can cash her winning ticket for her. When she does find her real mother (twice!), things start to move fast, coincidences start piling up at an alarming rate, and all's well that ends well despite all the crimes that are magically forgiven for lucky Lucky.

There's a reason I have consistently have problems with books that are popular with book clubs. Because, in general, they tend to suck. They try to be cutesy and realistic at the same time, but then they have to abandon reality to reach their cutesy endings. Lucky starts out well but then descends into cutesy repetitiveness, with the series of unlikely coincidences necessary to maintain the cutesy tone.

Also, if you're drawn to this title because of the "heist" that is promised in the description, thinking it might be a heist comedy, fuggedaboutit, there is no heist and it's not funny. I'm being generous not going below three stars because at least it wasn't offensive, at least not in audio.

Voice Ruined It

If I would have read this book or a different voice was used I would have enjoyed it. As another review said, the voice was a constant whine. It made the main character seem cringey and pathetic.
