Publisher's summary

Lucian Marcello is aware of the expectations following him as the oldest son of one of North America's most infamous Cosa Nostra Dons. Family in his world is more than blood and sharing a last name. It's the honor, respect, business, and the life. Being a Capo is just a stepping stone until it's time for him to take on the role of underboss but a chance meeting with her could be the one thing he'd risk it all for.

She is exactly what he didn't know he was looking for.

Jordyn Reese spends her time trying to stay under the radar of a man who wouldn't think twice about killing her. Unwillingly affiliated with a dangerous MC gang, her life is dominated by the men surrounding her and her future rests solely in how useful she can be for them. The last thing she needs is some Mafioso gaining her more unwanted attention from the club.

He is everything she should stay away from but can't.

Notoriously violent when it comes to getting what he wants, Lucian will stop at nothing to make the target on Jordyn's back disappear. But sometimes the worst threats are the ones you can't see until it's too late. The truth behind Lucian's history is about to take center stage in more ways than one, and it'll either save him or kill him.

This world leaves everyone a little filthy.

Impassioned crime family protecting what is theirs

John Thrust does a magnificent job with the narration of this already wide open melodrama of a crime family and the bad (not in a good way) motorcycle club. His diction. Beautiful accented English. Believable Italian. Forceful mobster/crime boss. He totally brings to life the work that Bethany-Kris put together. Each character comes to life. The story itself stirs you to action and emotion. Thrust makes it all the more real.

Great Build Up

What did you love best about Lucian?

The build up of the story made the story all the more better

Any additional comments?

Bethany-Kris did a wonderful job on this book. As I haven't read the book this Audio book makes me want to grab it. The narration is outstanding, I could listen to him all day.
I love how the mob life was explained thereby giving you a great understanding of mob life.
If you you never gave this type of book a try I would recommend you get this one. You won't be disappointed.

Can't wait to listen to it again.

Would you consider the audio edition of Lucian to be better than the print version?

This was a case of listening to the book first. This was a great incentive to get the book. Just like a movie brings a book to life, so does the audio version of a book. We get to have a voice that we just wonder about tell us, in this case, his story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lucian?

It was more than a moment but it was how protective Lucian was of Jordyn. What's more romantic than having the man you love try to protect you from things that only want to hurt you.

Which character – as performed by John Thrust – was your favorite?

It would have to be Lucian. Even though we don't see the narrator on a screen, his voice is what brought the character of Lucian to life. Having an accent helped in understanding more of who this character was and where he came from. It also added a passion to a character that would have been totally different had I read the book instead.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't know if you could say that it moved me but it certainly had me wanting more. The ending has me on pins and needles waiting to see what the author will have in store for Giovanni Marcello and who will be the narrator. I see that his story isn't in audio form yet so I don't know how patient I will be because I don't know how long I can wait. This just means that in that particular case I may have to read the book first and then get the audio version.

Any additional comments?

The book gives you some sense of how "violent" being in an MC or a mob family can be. It also shows that they have feelings like anyone else but how they go about protecting those they love is just a little different. Would I recommend this? Yes I would. If you're a fan of Bethany-Kris already then make sure to check this out. Maybe you're a lover of MC romance or Mafioso romance then you may want to add this to your library (be it in print or in audio form).

Great book

Amazing narration. Loved the narrator. Story great, perfect suspension. Held me to the story. Loved the story. I normally don't go for audio books but this was a game changer I think it was the suspension and story really had me glued in. Next time I pick audio I definitely will be looking towards this author. 5 stars. Loved it. I would definitely recommend it.

JUST NOT WHAT I EXPECTED 😑😞😵

This was an unexpected book for me, and I say this, because I love Mafia Romance books. "Lucian" was something different entirely. This book had some action in it 👏👏 for that, but the mafia don't usually act in the manner of which this particular mafia family did. This kinda confused me. To someone who's not used to the average crime family book may say"I didn't see anything wrong with it". It wasn't all bad just too different for me. Maybe it was me, and not the book, but it just didn't work out for me.

.I could only get to chapter 9 and that was a struggle, the narration was awful, to slow and very monotone..

I am about 1 hour from finishing and I don't even care

This story just doesn't make me care, I don't care about Lucien, I don't care about what's her name (I really forgot). Hardcore thug my butt, Lucian is just not alpha enough for this genre for me. I was just not up for story about a thug being tamed 😴

A TBR Must

Reviewed on behalf of Twisted Book Reviews:
Although not my normal fare, I found myself utterly enthralled by Lucian: Filthy Marcellos. Bethany Kris did what few authors are able to accomplish: she built a world so detailed and elaborate, one forgets it is just a story. So much detail was devoted to explaining the intricacies of mob life, I almost felt I was there, wondering the streets with Lucian and Jordyn. In addition to this compelling story, the narrator of the audio book performed beautifully, lending another layer of authenticity to the tale. With an accent perfectly suited to the material, I often found myself sitting in my car, long after I had arrived at my destination, just to get in one last chapter.
Overall, I found Lucian: Filthy Marcellos book one to be a well-rounded, intricately written story of love, familial obligations and organized crime.

Love, LOVE, LOVED Audiobook of Lucian

Where does Lucian rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At first I wasn't sure but this turned into one of the top audiobooks I have listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was Jordyn, hands down however I loved who Lucian and Jordyn were when they were together, almost as if they were a completely different yet singular entity when they were together.

What does John Thrust bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He has extremely clear diction and a great ability to switch back and forth between English and very believable Italian.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Mainly I was just enthralled by the Jordyn-Lucian love-story.

Hot Mafia bad boy/ Prince Charming

Wow a good book with some very sexy scenes. I really connected easily with the characters. I'm not sure if it was just mine but something was going on with the speed for me. I had to listen to it at 1.40😮 This might not sound like to much of a jump for those that listen at high speeds. I however normally listen at a 1. at most 1.10 Now you see just what a jump it is? Normally that speed would sound like Mickey mouse but it was normal for my copy. So if you get it and it sounds S. L. O. W. It's any easy fix. After cranking up my speed setting I loved the narration. It did still have some longer than normal pauses but it didn't take away from the book. He did a great job on all the different voices and the Italian was sexy. Lucian is now up there on my book bf list. Sexy and a good storyline and I would say its worth a credit. I actually contacted a friend who's on a mafia kick, to get it before I even finished because I new she'd love It. I requested to review this book because I could just tell by the cover and the blurb I'd love it and I did

Bethany-Kris is such a fabulous writer. Listening to Lucian was quite the adventure. This story will keep you on your toes. His life and choices throughout the story, especially as it pertains to Jordyn keep you on the edge of your seat. This book is very addictive. It’s a definite must read.

A thrilling, sexy, romantic saga

This was an epic saga of romance between two lost souls. It was a long book but it never felt like it dragged. It drew you in and kept you enthralled from beginning to end.

John Thrust's performance was very good. My only real complaint was that his delivery was a bit slow. Once I increased the speed of the audio a bit it was perfect. I like that he didn't try to force a higher pitched female voice. It didn't need to be done.

Books Like This Are Why I Dig Mafia Reads!

Audiobook Review. 4.5 Stars. This book was a great reminder of why I love mafia books. I enjoy the contrast of their rules and the application of such. I enjoy when the bad boys fall for their ladies. I enjoy all the action and excitement that comes with the experience.

The plot was well done with strong pacing and prose to support it. Lucian was a great hero that seemed to have an easy and quick connection to Jordyn. I appreciate the balance in Jordyn. She’s strong but fragile in some ways too. It made her all the more real.

The narrator, John Thrust, did a fantastic job. He did transitions and inflections particularly well. I usually prefer dual narration but found I didn’t even miss it this time.

Perfection, pure perfection!

OK, so Bethany Kris is one of my absolute favorite organize crime authors. I fall in love with every single one of her messed up men and women… the made-men and the mafia princesses. They are all snuggled in pretty deeply into my soul. Her stories feel so accurate. I mean, I really have no idea if they are. But the storylines are so good and so different that I’m invested from the first word. I love all these bad men and Lucian, well, he’d dark, he’s dirty and a killer with no remorse. This was delicious!

The narrator, John Thrust could not have been any more perfect if he was Lucian. I mean, wow, I loved everything about his voice. His accent seriously fascinated me. I might have found myself attracted to just the voice. Thrust was able to give us a slightly accented English accent, but then, when he tossed in the Italian accent, well, I nearly fell over. I could not have imagined a better narrator for this audiobook. Perfection, pure perfection!

Great Story

I really enjoyed the start of the book, it immediately grabbed my attention and pulled me right into the storyline. I was immersed into the dark and deadly world of the mafia and motorcycle gangster life. The overall storyline was good.

What I didn’t enjoy very much was the narration. The reading tempo was too slow for my liking and John Thrust’s voice has a staccato style to it, which made listening at normal speed quite frustrating. Once I increased the reading speed to 1.3x, it was much easier to listen to and I could really get stuck into the story.
