Publisher's summary

From the author of The Honey Bus comes a wild and emotional memoir of family and self-discovery, featuring a lovable golden retriever named Edie

Meredith May had a difficult childhood, with a mother who was physically present but emotionally absent. She learned early on to fend for herself, and never had to care for anyone else. When she and her wife, Jenn, adopt Edie, a sweet golden retriever puppy with saucer brown eyes and buttery white fur, Edie wins their hearts immediately. But it isn’t long after Edie joins the family that the problems begin.

Edie is an unusually anxious dog. She cowers around most people and the slightest noise sends her into a frenzy. Edie’s fears become so intense that Meredith and Jenn can’t leave the house. Is this normal puppy behavior or something more? Meredith grows determined to fix Edie, but what will she do if Edie can’t be fixed?

In this poignant and heartfelt memoir, Meredith shares her unforgettable journey with Edie, and the lessons about selflessness and unconditional love that she learns along the way. From treating Edie with CBD gummies to visiting a dog medium, Meredith shows just how far she is willing to go to save her dog. But maybe Edie is secretly the one doing the saving—if Meredith will only open her heart.

You dog isn't fearful? Read/listen any way!

Although my puppy is the exact opposite and fears nothing I thought I would listen to this . I wanted to appreciate his personality. I didn't realize that having a fearful dog could be just as nerve racking and time consuming as my pup. I now have much more respect and empathy for any one going through fearful/fearless issues with themselves and their furry friends.

Meredith May does a wonderful job and opened her soul about her expectations and frustrations. She gives voice to the humiliation we all feel when our best friends aren't "socially acceptable". I felt I was listening to a friend. I will put her on my favorite authors list.

Candace Thaxton brought so much life to the story I that I was listening to the author herself. And just saw now that it was narrated by someone. else. Wonderful job to fool me that way, Candace!

BTW: the pdf is recommended reading. list. I would add all of Patricia McConnell's books to this list.

A good read for all dog parents!

As the owner of a fearful dog, there was much in this book that I could relate to. But even if your dog is fear-free, this is a touching story of the unexpected path our dogs can lead us down on a regular basis.
While my dog's fears are different from Edie's, there is a shared experience of accepting her for all that she is and loving her for always trying to do her best.
I highly recommend this book to all dog guardians, but especially to those whose dogs need that bit of extra security that only their human can supply.

Puppy story we can all learn from.

Darling, funny memoir. I too have a unique pup who goes at her own pace. A mere 15 pound funny girl has come to be comfortable with and love dearly her 60 and 70 pound cousins. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
