Fascinating & Personal

I honestly knew nothing about Clementine Churchill before starting this book.
It’s a journal-style view of her life from Meeting Winston through the end of WWII. It encompasses their personal and political endeavors, while highlighting the friction and strife of being a woman, let alone a woman of power. Some of the best moments were the emotional family dynamics, layered in with a struggle to balance being a mother and serving her country. It goes to show that all families struggle with addiction, loss, and work-life balance.
Elizabeth Sastre does a great job carrying Clementine’s story, as well as all the family and interim characters. Her portrayals of the Roosevelts were my favorite.

Perfect choice of narrator

Ms Sastre is the perfect narrator for this excellent book. When reading some of Winston’s first person utterances she used the perfect tone and cadence to portray what marriage to this unusual man entailed. No wonder Clementine needed extended periods away for her mental well-being! We owe a great deal to her for the outcome of WW2.

Great writing, great narration

Clemmie drove me a little bit crazy but Marie Benedict did her job excellently. Astute research and well articulated history.

This was a thought provoking book with so much history! . I really enjoyed iClemintine’s story.

Great Glimpse

Great glimpse into an mportant Woman's contributions at a time when there were so many limits. Clearly she was quite brilliant and did what she could to influence events considering norms and expectations.

Who knew?!

I am so grateful to know the remarkable influence of Mrs Churchill on not only her husband but upon history and women of her time and beyond.

Mesmerizing

Once I got into this I never wanted to leave Clementine's perspective, life, marriage. Not perfect, not a great mom, that's for sure, but a strong, fascinating woman who figured out who maneuver around a great and possibly overbearing man and who witness most of 20th century history.

Although this is fiction, it is based on true research. So glad that the importance of. women behind famous men is recognized.

Inspiring Story- Great Period History

This is well written. I enjoyed the read. I felt like I was right there with Clemmy. I highly recommend this to everyone.
