As in North and South, Mr. Jakes does a superb job catching the everyday man's imagination in bringing him into his story.

Absolutely fantastic

The history was spot on, intertwined with a personal touch as it followed families and military through the civil war. A true foundation of America and a war that still goes on even in to the 21st century.

Understand Civil War better

Fabulous book and author; great narrator. Will listen to many more times to catch what I missed.

This book helps me understand the civil war much better.

Several good villains - both black and white. Scheming and conniving by Virgilia, Ashton, Bent and others horrifying, but true to life.

Good treatment of sex.

Orry failed to shoot Bent and other coconspirators immediately a mistake; also his showing mercy to a wounded soldier
who then murdered Orry reminded me of the need for immediate deadly action in some circumstances.

Life long friendships of West Point graduates very good.

Common aspects of life - love for a good horse, lice infestation, pettiness, need for basic necessities well done.

Horrible conditions in Confederate prison. I am sure conditions as bad in Union prisons.

This book corroborated experiences my family, both Southerners and Yankees, had during and after the war.

I recommend this book for its entertainment value and history.

Its long but you will enjoy it

What made the experience of listening to Love and War the most enjoyable?

Its a great story and one that leaves you seeking more...wanting to know what happens in book 2 and 3. I would say there are parts that drag just a little, but if you can get through those you will nejoy the whole story.

Hearing about the lead up to the amercian civil war - something I was not terribly afmilair with.

I enioyed the development and depth of the characters during a great story of hope and change to the United States
