Publisher's summary

After growing up in Nashville with two musician parents, I promised myself one thing—I would never, ever fall in love with anyone who had anything to do with the music scene. I will take my stable, albeit boring, accountant boyfriend, thank you very much, and live securely ever after. At least, that was the plan. Who knew one ridiculous party where boy band sensation Finn Thatcher showed up would turn my life completely upside down.

How dare he write a song about me. A song that went straight to number one. A song that messes everything up with his band. And who gets the blame for that? That’s right, me. I’m the new Yoko Ono. The only way to fix it is to give the world what it wants—a love story. We are talking the whole freaking fairy tale. Nothing says true love like a fake relationship. But what if it’s not so fake? What if I want the happily ever after? Or am I just another love song to Finn?

Fun story!

Love Songs Suck is my first Becky Monson book so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I don’t like when things get too silly in a romcom, but I like a lot of humor, humor that feels natural and not forced. This story delivered just that! It hit all the right spots for me! I loved the first person narrative and I really liked both Louella and Finn. Their romance slowly builds as the story progresses so it feels realistic - it was perfection! I really loved their late night texting sessions! I also loved Louella’s relationship with her teenage sister and Finn’s family was awesome! The pacing in this story was perfect! It never slowed, so I never lost interest. My only issue with this storys is that there was mild language throughout. I would’ve been much happier without it. With that being said, I really enjoyed everything else about this romance.

I listened to the audiobook of this story, which I highly recommend. I really loved the narrator and the the way she voiced the characters and made them come alive.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. 4.5 stars.

Sweet story - loved the witty writing!

The main character is so believable and down-to-earth that you feel like she could be one of your real-life friends. I loved how each chapter name was also a song title! Becky Monson is such a clever writer. The witty descriptions and dialogue made it especially fun. I wanted to read (listen) to this non-stop. Cute storyline that had me pulling for the characters and finished with a satisfying epilogue. Might be my favorite Becky Monson book yet!

Great Narration

I loved this book the first time I read it. I think I love it even more now after listening to it. It is a fun read if you love boy bands, fake dating, and second chances. If you’re a rom-com lover you’ll love this one.

A sweet story

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The author did a fabulous job creating a storyline around music, fame and life. The main characters are so different and yet so the same. An adorable story that whisks you away on an adventure of romance and forgiveness.

Positively Charming, Sweet Romance

I absolutely LOVED this book! It was funny and swoony and all around adorable. The plot moved at a rate that wouldn’t allow me to stop until I knew how it was going to play out. I devoured it in two days, when it usually takes me a week or two to get through an audiobook. I just couldn’t stop listening to this one!

The audiobook narrator is FANTASTIC! She had a lot of personality in her performance and I loved the different voices she did for all of the characters. I felt fully immersed and the only thing that could have made it better was if the narrator had become a boy band singer and sung the lyrics for me. Just kidding, but I really wish I could go to a Finn Thatcher concert!

All the little pieces polished this book up to be positively charming. Song titles for every chapter. Original lyrics written out. Little domestic moments. Witty texting conversations. Unrequited love angst. Celebrity romance. And a happy dose of fake dating.

🔥Romance: Kissing (closed door/clean)

Loved it! ❤️

l absolutely loved this story! It’s a sweet and wonderful slow-burn, friends to lovers, he falls first, close proximity, and fake dating romance. I was immediately hooked and couldn’t stop listening.

Finn and Louella are the cutest couple, and Becky did a great job in capturing all the feels of a man and woman who are powerfully drawn together, and the fluttery feelings and sweet tension of a new relationship.

The narrator did an outstanding job! Her voice was natural and she had excellent expression—not like she was reading it, which kills an audiobook for me. She did a fabulous job and her performance really enhanced the story.

This is now my favorite book by this author, and if you love these book tropes, it’s one I highly recommend.

GREAT AUDIO.

Thank you to the author for a gifted audiobook!

I love a good audiobook and the narrator did an amazing job. I felt fully immersed in the story and I think that also really helped my thoughts overall.

I tend to struggle with rock star romances. I don’t know why, but I keep trying because I know I’ll find some good ones out there. And I consider this a good one (and a sweet one for my sweet romance fans!). I liked the soulful connection between Louella and Finn. The instant chemistry was played off really well and I liked the slow burn strangers to friends to lovers that occurred over months together. I didn’t LOVE that Louella was dating someone for 75% of the book (but I know that’s a preference thing and I just prefer the break-up to happen much sooner).

Finn fell first and HARD and he was just so dang sweet. I liked his personality and how hard he worked to be a good friend, musician and someone you actually wanted to be friends with. I loved all of the late night texts and phone calls and the smooth lyrics that were clearly showing all of Finn’s feelings.

This was my first Becky Monson book and it convinced me that I would love to read another. I liked her writing style and story telling. This was a good read and I think fantastic for summertime!

Overall audience notes:

Contemporary Romance
Language: none
Romance: kisses
Violence: low

i’ll be the first to admit that rockstar romances aren’t my favorite and i tend to avoid them, but the premise of this book intrigued me so much and it didn’t disappoint!! louella and finn’s meet cute was so memorable. their chemistry was apparent from the start and it was easy to see that finn was smitten.

fast forward some months and louella’s world is turned upside down by the song written on that fateful meeting. the story that follows was both hilarious and heartwarming. i absolutely loved finn and his lyrics — i wish they were real songs! his love for lou was so evident and throughout the story you could see his feelings for her through his words and actions. the way he took care of her and constantly put his feelings on the back burner made my heart swoon. he was so respectful of her!

louella put up a valiant effort against finn’s charms and her growing feelings for him — she did have a fiancé after all. and what was up with that guy?? i got worried that we wouldn’t find out kurt’s deal, but that part of the story was oh so satisfying and a twist i never saw coming. lou’s resistance made for the best slow burn and when she and finn are finally free to feel all of the feels together it was chef’s kiss! i truly enjoyed this story from beginning to end and the narration really brought it to life! highly recommend!!

thank you to the author for the audiobook! my thoughts are my own.

Review: Love Songs Suck

A terrific romantic comedy with an amazing narrator! I was wrapped up in the story and it took some very interesting a d surprising turns.

Narrator Holly Warren really brought Lou and her story to life. Her timing and vocal variations for the different characters was well done. I would definitely listen to her read another story.
