Publisher's Summary

In this unforgettable meet-cute, Samantha Allen traces her story of self-discovery during gender transition and the life-altering partnership that began with a simple hello in an elevator.

Feeling “unfinished” at the liminal age of twenty-six, the author had already accumulated decades of emotional baggage growing up in a Mormon family and living with gender dysphoria. When she met Corey midtransition, she felt even more like an awkward shape-shifter. Now Samantha shares how taking a chance on that fortuitous encounter meant having the courage to be herself.

Love & Estrogen is part of The Real Thing, a collection of moving, hilarious, and big-hearted essays on the modern realities of friendship, romance, commitment, and love. Each story can be listened to in a single sitting.

A Beautiful Book!!

Beautifully written and read, this story educated, informed and entertained me. I thought I knew a lot about the transgender experience, but no I had a lot to learn. I’m grateful to this author for what she shared, and how she shared it!

A love story for anyone who has been in love.

Told with such tenderness and vulnerability you can't help, but be moved. A love story more than a transgender story. Love is love. Learn that a transgender person is not defined by there "transgender-ness", much akin to how a cisgender person is not defined by their "cisgender-ness". Gender is only one small part of our "human-ness". Love, on the other hand, makes-up a much greater amount of what it means to be human.

Important timing.

This was a very important book for me. I remain perplexed about sexual dysphoria and feel that I learned a lot from this book. It makes sense that so many things can take a different turn in fetal development. And it seems to me that sexual dysphoria is one of them.it is extremely important that it be recognized and addressed just as any other issue that was caused by a turn in fetal development.

Killing me softly

Killing me softly with her words is what this felt like. The audio was very effectively enjoyable. The story ended way too soon because as I was just getting into it the story was over. Delicately written and oh so enjoyable!

Love, Estrogen, and Excellence

The author's narration of her very own Love and Estrogen made my cis white boy heart flutter and swell with queer love and admiration. Do yourself a favor and pick a quiet place and put on some headphones. An intimate reading, such as this, rewards the listener with nuanced audible ques of every warm smile and welled up tearful reminiscence--and there are many. I found myself enraptured and blissfully lost in the poetic nature of her retellings. How can a story be both so artfully worded yet so intimately detailed?! You will cry, often. The authenticity of this book is evident from the quiet opening scenes at the Kinsey Library to the emboldened closing monologues on womanhood and love. Immediately after, I feel like I know something real about her and her journey. About her respect for hot chx sandwiches, her beloved Corey with game, and her growth with this partner and through a second puberty. I found myself eagerly sacrificing tears and sobs on the altar of admiration, as if they could help her through her inner battles and embolden her magical and serendipitous love. I'm left with a burning desire to hug and hold onto the next loved one I see and tell them I will always love them and they are as beautiful now as they have ever been. I am literally glowing and will be checking back often for more from this author!
