Publisher's Summary

Maddie Kinkaid believes her late husband, Jack, gives her advice on everything - from ordering a pizza to hiring a carpenter. When she finds Caleb Walker's business card on Jack's desk, she's convinced that he's the guy to remodel her kitchen.

He can't decide if she's worth the risk. Caleb is a single father, and protecting his young son means avoiding romantic entanglements. But there's heat in every kitchen, and sparks ignite between Caleb and Maddie - until disaster strikes. When Jack goes silent, it looks as if she and Caleb will never find their happily-ever-after. At least, not without a little help from Jack.

Love Built to Last began as the award-winning short story "Fireflies", and is now the first novel in the Fireflies series.

Like finding Buried Treasure! 🌻

Okay....where do I begin? Well, let me start by saying that I went into this book knowing I already loved the narration of Pam Dougherty. She enhances each story and is always a pleasure to listen to. Bravo!

Now, this is a new Author for me so I didn't know what to expect. Well, to my delighted surprise, I feel like I found buried treasure with this book. The characters are endearing, emotionally flawed, and feel so genuine. (Even the dog stole my heart 💓) The Story is filled with life lessons, touching moments galore, funny scenes, and the promise of another book in the series for me to look forward to. I highly recommended this wonderful book!

(Note: This book is almost a clean read . It does have some swearing and sexual encounters but nothing explicit.)

I received a copy of the audiobook and I'm voluntarily leaving this review. I am grateful to the author and narrator for the opportunity. 😊

Not my usual genre, but very good

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So, I will start this review by saying this is SO not a genre I ever seak out. I'm just not into love stories. They are often FAR too sappy and hoakey for my taste. As it turns out, I had requested a different book but got a credit code and link to this book by mistake. I have a long commute and burn through audio books VERY fast, so didn't realize this wasn't one of the books I requested. Pam was nice enough to help sort that out for me with the book I HAD requested. Anyway, I figured, why not just give it a listen anyway. Turns out, I'm actually kind of glad I did. It was definitely a love story, but it had a light paranormal aspect to it, and really was well written (and narrated). It wasn't enough to get me to continue the series over my preferred genres, but it was a pleasant experience and it gave my wife and I some things to chat about as our reading/listening interests tend to be quite different. If you like love stories that focus on the meaning of love (reminded me of This is Us without the paranormal aspect), you'll love this one. Come to think about it, this WOULD make a great TV show or movie.

Beautiful Listen!

Wow!! What a beautiful story full! This book had so much going for it! Romance, Heartbreak, Healing, Second Chance at love and some Humor. I thought the book was very well written and I was so impressed by the narrator (Pam Dougherty). I love it when the narrator is able to perform various characters with distinguishable voices and put so many emotions into their performance. I thought the book had some very realistic and poignant scenes. The imagery of the fireflies was so cool how they were used. I do not write a synopsis of the book in my reviews, but rather my opinion of it. The author was new to me, while I have listened to the narrator before. I find both are very talented and will definitely look for more books by them. I received this book as a gift and have voluntarily written my review. I can't wait to listen to the next book in this series. This a standalone book and well worth a credit.

Heartwarming Contemporary Romance

This is a new author for me and I’m so glad I took a chance. It was beautifully written. It is nice for once to have both main characters being decent, caring, and responsible people. This is a story about second chances for a widow and a widower.

Narration was excellent and brought the story to life. Great intonation and emotion placed at the right place to make this an outstanding listen.

Both main characters love their spouses fiercely and have been alone since their deaths. They often talk to them but Jack seems to actually send signs and messages to Maddie.

There are some ups and downs, funny moments, and heartfelt moments. It a great story with great characters. Sweet HEA conclusion.

I’m looking forward to her next book in this great series. I love the series name “Fireflies”. It ties up nicely with some pretty sweet moments in this book.

A Wonderful Story

This is a wonderful, heartwarming and heart-wrenching story! I enjoyed listening to the characters grow and come out of themselves to learn how to live again. I enjoyed the reality Ms. Claro put into the story in dealing with the loss of a spouse in a good relationship, that it's not so simple to "bounce" back into life. Pam Dougherty did an excellent job with the narration! She really brought the story to life. This is a beautiful story about healing and living life after tragedy strikes. I will recommend this story to my friends and look forward to the next book in this series.

Love of a great audio

This is my first listen to this author and narrator. Both the author and narrator were amazing. Love how the author wrote about true love . It’s what life is all about. There is many layers to this story . It’s about learning to let go so something new can come in

Hero is Caleb. Heroine is Maddie.
Maddie is a widow that sees signs or supposedly sees signs of her deceased husband Jack telling her what to do next for her life . Maddie needs the kitchen remodeled. Maddie finds a card on Jacks Desk and she thinks Jack spirit is telling her to pick that company
Caleb is a single father that just doesn’t trust women . He was burned and he said never again. He gets a call for a do over kitchen job and he accepts it. There is instant attraction between Caleb and Maddie.
Does Maddie convince Caleb to take a chance.
The narrator was great. Pam voice was clear and she did the parts fantastic

Good first book to start off this series

I enjoyed these characters and the way they came together. Their chance at love seemed random but we find out they had a little help that is hard to deny. I loved the way this second chance at romance came about. I'm looking forward to book 2!This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

An old-fashioned love story

I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Love Built to Last is a detail-oriented kind of story that's hard to find these days. The descriptions of everything: the furniture, the kitchen, the dog, the surrounding countryside, were all rich in vivid precision, so that as I listened I felt fully submersed in the setting. Maddie hasn't let go of her husband who died in a car crash four years ago, so when she finds herself falling for a widower with a young son who is remodeling her kitchen, she's not sure how to cope. There's a plethora of colorful secondary characters whom I'm sure populate the other books in the series, but this book can easily be read as a stand-alone, complete with a satisfying happily-ever-after. The story dragged on just a bit at times, and I got a little tired of waiting for Maddie to realize that life is for the living, but Caleb was a hero with patience and perseverance. A lovely visit to a setting where kindness and tranquility are part of life, not the exception.
