A man born to protect...

After a major loss, Brody Carter found a home with the London office of McKay-Taggart. A former soldier, he believes his job is to take the bullets and follow orders. He’s happy to take on the job of protecting Dr. Stephanie Gibson while the team uses her clinic in Sierra Leone to bring down an international criminal.

What he never expected was that the young doctor would prove to be the woman of his dreams. She’s beautiful, smart, and reckless. Over and over, he watches her risk her life to save others. One night of pure passion leads him to realize that he can’t risk his heart again.

When the mission ends, Brody walks away, unwilling to lose another person he loves.

A woman driven to heal...

Stephanie’s tragic past taught her to live for today. Everything she’s done in the last 15 years has been to make up for her mistakes. Offering medical care in war-torn regions gives her the purpose she needs to carry on.

When she meets her gorgeous Aussie protector, she knows she’s in too deep, but nothing can stop her from falling head over heels in love. But after one amazing night together, Brody walks away and never looks back.

Stephanie is left behind...but not alone.

A secret that will change both their lives...

A year later, Stephanie runs afoul of an evil mercenary who vows to kill her for failing to save his friend. She runs to the only people she trusts: Liam and Avery O’Donnell. She hasn’t come alone, and her secret will bring her former lover across the world to protect her.

From Liberia to Dallas, Brody will do whatever it takes to protect Stephanie from the man who wants to kill her, but it might be her own personal demons that could destroy them both.

It is simply unbelievable how Ryan West can pull off so many characters perfectly in a book. Simply amazing! Loved it.

The story is a bit unique... one night stand... with an amazing stud... ooops... bla bla bla... BUT this book has a twist. It's about Stephanie... who can't let go of her past... who could... if you killed a baby and a father in a car accident. OUCH!! Her way of thinking revolves around that tragic teenage night of the car accident. Sometimes it's frustrating to listen to her decisions but then if you think of it from her perspective, it all makes sense. All her decisions are tainted. Don't worry, I haven't given anything away. All this you will know from the get-go.

Brody is a bodyguard who happens to be 6'7... OMG... my neck would hurt looking at him. I think he's the tallest of the lot in this series. He is so strong, focused and a puppy. Loved his character. At times, the book is so funny that it has me in stitches. In fact, all the men in this series play a small role in this book... they are just breath taking; funny, strong and committed.

The story is unique in it's own way and has you engaged at all times. I highly recommend this book. Enjoy!

I absolutely LOVED this book. I was listening to another audio book when this one came out! It takes a lot for me to put it on hold. I did just that when I saw this book came out. This is one of my two favorite Masters and Mercenaries book. (Ian’s book is my other favorite) The narration was spot on with his Aussie accent very spot on! This is first rate M & M action and romance! So glad Brody and Steph got their happy ending! Five Flippin’ Stars on this beauty!

This book brings many of the series into the story. Brody the Aussie Carter gets involved with doctor Stephanie Gibson who happens to be the young woman who as a teen had accidentally killed Avery o’Donnell’ s first husband and baby girl in a car accident but had eventually become friends with Liam and Avery. When she gets threatened while working on a patient in Africa, she runs to McKay Taggert for help. The dialog is a bit repetitive for both Brody and Stephanie as they try to deal with their feelings for each other as well as personal issues. Dr Stephanie has almost as many mental problems as the lost boys and it is amazing she survived to that point. Good thing the company keeps counselors on staff both in Dallas and London. Ian and Charlotte still remain my favorite characters in this series and are entertaining in this story as well. The characters are interesting and there is plenty of action and some sexy scenes though just as many family moments. The narration is good but would be improved if it was dual. Also it would be really great if the audios would come out at the same time as the paperback and kindle. It’s annoying to have to wait and some of the series still isn’t in audio form.

One of the best in the series due to the characters story and whole crew involvement
