Publisher's Summary

From USA Today best-selling author Trisha Wolfe comes her most gripping psychological thriller yet.

Lakin Hale, true crime writer and victim of an attack that left her for dead, helps crime solvers and victims close cold cases, yet there is one crime she hasn't been able to solve:

Her own.

As she embarks on a new case, working closely with Special Agent Rhys Nolan, the details of the murder begin to eerily resemble the event that nearly ended her life. A silhouette of a man haunts her dreams, but there were only two people there that night - Lakin and her murderer. Is the phantom hero who pulled her from the water a delusion, or is he the only one who can unlock her dark memories?

Buried in a watery grave of lotuses, the victim calls out to Lakin, unearthing painful memories of what was stolen from her that fateful night. For those that played a part, it's now time to answer for their sins.

Unable to suspend my common sense

I enjoyed this book and finished it but why would the FBI work with a victim of amnesia/attempted murder to solve cold cases? Totally unbelievable. BUT! I did finished it and enjoyed the characters even if Lakin makes ridiculous mistakes. It had surprises that I didn’t expect and I liked Lakin and Rhys though I usually get bored with romance added to a good mystery. Narrator was excellent and emphasized Lakin’s flat affect from her trauma. I hope that was the point of some of her decisions and outbursts. Fast forwarded thru 20% because of repetition. That all being said, I did enjoy the book and didn’t consider returning just not stellar.

Not as intriguing as Wolfe’s “Darkly, Madly Duet”

Trisha Wolfe leads us an unusual cold case: An attempted murder, is investigated. Narrator Victoria Villarreal’s narration is well presented. I found the plot hard to follow and a disappointment: I skipped chapters to finish it. Perhaps it’s just not the book for me. As my editor, dear friend and mentor wisely told me in the ‘70s, “If everyone liked the same things, the world would indeed be a boring one.” RIP Dan Di Leo

Since it’s been a few years, I am definitely listening to “Wolfe’s “Darkly, Madly Duet” a second time; now that was epic!

Good listen, slow to start.

I was captivated by other novels of hers, but not so much with this one. It was slow to start and lacked in the psychological twists throughout. That being said it kept me interested enough. It's a good book, but if you want something more like her other novels (eg. The Ties That Bind, Visions of Red) then this is not the book for you.

Fantastic book!

I’m a rabid Trisha Wolfe fan. I’ve read every single book she’s written… more than once. Every book is well thought out and extremely well written and keeps me holding my breath from start to finish. If you like intrigue.. and dark.. you’ll love her books.

This… it grabbed me from the beginning (I’ve read it before but listened this time), and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Victoria Villarreal do an amazing job with the narration.. she’s excellent.

A nice listen

New narrator for me. Not a bad listen, I love a good psychological thriller and this was good, not her best, but good. The abrupt back and forth between past and present was a bit jarring, but I think that was intended to fit the h's narrative. Some light romance and a couple humorous moments. This gets you thinking and analyzing with the h, so 👍
