Publisher's summary

Ryder Creed rescues abandoned dogs and turns them into heroes. But this time, it’s Creed who may need rescuing when a madman leads him and agent Maggie O’Dell on a gut-wrenching scavenger hunt.

Sixteen years ago, Ryder Creed’s sister, Brodie, vanished from an interstate rest stop. She was only 11, and Creed was 14. Her disappearance ripped apart his family and has haunted Creed.

Now a former Marine with his own scars, Creed has dedicated his life to his K-9 business. He takes discarded and abandoned dogs and trains them for scent detection. Together they search for the lost and the missing. Throughout, Creed has always held onto the hope one day he might find out what happened to his sister.

A thousand miles away during a police raid, FBI agent Maggie O'Dell stumbles upon a clue that may explain what happened to Brodie Creed all those years ago. But to find the answers, she’ll need to make a deal with a madman. The search that follows will be as agonizing for Creed as the answers he discovers.

Just when you think you know...

Alex Kava is such a talented story teller. Just when I think it's all figured out, there is something to make you wonder and go over the facts again. I love all of her books and I enjoyed this performance!

A worthy Audible addition

I find that almost all Audible editions take a 4-5 star digital format down to a 0-2 star rating. The narrator’s performance is key and almost all are unqualified. I give this narrator 4 stars - very acceptable performance. I would have rated the digital format 5 stars; the audible form receives 4 stars. At times, the narrator’s tone and inflection detaches the reader. Not often, but the few times that it does occur made me regret that I had not bought the Kindle version. I love this series. I am also not yet at the point of giving up on this narrator...

Easy Listening

Good at following story lines established in earlier books. Points of view could become complicated but did not impede the story trajectory. Satisfying read.

Spectacular!

Having listened to the first three Ryder Creed novels, I found this one equally satisfying and entertaining. Looking forward to listening to the next three!

Captivating!

A strong multi-faceted story. My mind was engaged from start to finish. Alex Kava handles a dark topic with respect and class. I love a story that I can hate the bad guy and cheer for the good guy while juggling anticipation... since life (and characters) don't always turn out like you expect!

Goosebump Good

The Ryder Creed series has quickly become a favorite for me. It ticks a lot of my favorite boxes with an alpha male who is strong yet sensitive and scarred but resilient. His choice of using rescue dogs for his search and rescue/recovery business makes him even more wonderful. The fact that his masculinity doesn't suffer when using a Jack Russell as one of his finest sniffing dogs just moves him into the category of personal kryptonite.

Creed isn't the only awesome character here. He's surrounded by a host of stellar men and women, from wounded vets to federal agents, and of course, his business partner who walks in both grace and wisdom. This is book four in the series and each novel has improved upon the others. This particular storyline revolves around a seriously creepy man who may or may not be a serial killer. He says he's just the "body handler," the one who disposes of the messes his unnamed boss creates. As if that isn't enough, somewhere within this nest of snakes is a sex trafficking operation that may have something to do with the disappearance of our hero's younger sister when they were children.

There's a lot going on in this novel, but it all works together for one glorious story. Whether you've previously indulged in this series or not, you can dive right into this story. They're all interconnected yet can be read as stand-alones. Just don't miss these great stories if you're a fan of thriller/suspense, crime, K-9, or former military reads.

Sorry I waited so long to get this one!

I’ve read all of the Maggie O’Dell and Creed series, enthralled with the way Kava weaves a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This entry in the Creed series gives the reader some satisfying conclusions to lingering story lines and introduces new ones that will hook you into the next in the series.

While I find some of the books so technical that I wish I had a hard copy to refer back to, this entry was easy to follow in the audio format. A big bonus for me was that this installment featured a crime scene in my hometown of Omaha. I enjoyed the local references.

If you’ve been with Maggie from the beginning, you won’t be disappointed.

Incredible

Kava is a terrific author and this new series is her best, yet. I hope there are many more books to come!!! Love the dogs, and the human characters, too! Suspense, intrigue, fast pace and well written. I love books and read different genres but a good mystery where the main characters include a loving, intelligent dog... Well let's just say in choosing what book to read next, that storyline will be my 1st choice EVERY time. Thanks Alex Kava (& Scout)
