When Makara Angel winds up in post-apocalyptic LA, she was looking for a home, not trouble. Now Makara finds herself in the middle of a gang war, fighting for survival in LA's decaying streets.

Even after she falls in with the Lost Angels and their charismatic leader, safety is no guarantee. The Black Reapers are ramping up their aggression against the Angels, and Makara finds herself in the crossfire.

It's a battle to the death, and whatever gang survives will rule the ruins of the City of Angels. Can Makara carve out a new life here, or will the Reapers snuff out her second chance for good?

I really liked the new approach on post apocalyptic world.
I really didn't like the narrator. She seams nice, but so very very young. child like. ugh.

interesting story

The story is good. Solid. Full of interesting people but my goodness, every time that child Makara makes an appearance, I have to quickly turn down the sound. When the child is really happy or really scared, it’s like screeching, high pitched razor blades slicing through my brain. So disturbing! Why Werder thinks ANY child sounds like this I just dunno. I’ll give it a little longer but will probably do a swap on this one. Just awful and you cannot predict when the child - a MAIN character- will appear — but it’s too often for me.

Werder’s child’s voice like screeching razor blades!

I happened on the audiobook for this prequel after listening to all of the other books in this series. I wish I had found the prequel first and recommended the series be read in that order. The prequel gives a lot of valuable background on the characters and the world of the "Wasteland Chronicles." And, unlike a lot of post-apoc prequels, it is a full length book rather than novella so there is a lot of information in there for before you start book one. The only negative, and this applies exclusively to the audiobook, is that I didn't like the way the narrator voiced young Mikara and some of the other voices.
