A formidibly twisting conclusion

A Brilliant layered pseudo historical fantasy that shines a light on real life.
Political intrigue, love, lust, manipulation, retribution all mix with bizarre lovable and hateable characters. A masterpiece of invention. Hard going at times and not for one shy of linguistics the whole series is hard to place in any pigeonhole. The audible narration was a tough choice for me at first, having read the first two books in print form and thus assigned the characters my own voices and characteristics, but for the most part this quickly faded. For a book with so many characters the author and narrator did a great job of giving each their own feel.

Secrets have the power to restore or destroy.

A medieval and mythical challenge for power leads to the ultimate challenge which way will the stones fall?

Oddly enthralling

A weird world that I will sorely miss. A genre busting romp with wonderful characters.

Loved the style and characters but the grandstand end well...

Quirky and unique, a bit weird but rich and colourful. I would listen to the author again. The lack of explanation of the “other place” was missing and battle just didn’t fit. The villain somehow did not live up to his billing either.... glad I listened but a little disappointed

Sad to say goodbye to Lost Acre

I've listened to all three Rotherweird books on Audible and I've loved every minute of them. This last book had a few long descriptive passages and the mythology analogy was hammered home a little too heavily on occasions, but these are very minor issues which don't take away from what has been, over all three books, a wonderful journey through a world bursting with richness and colour, brilliant imagination and, inevitably, the darkness of human life and our interactions with each other and the nature around us. Congratulations also to the narrator, Kris Dyer, whose performance over the series brought this fabulous world and its inhabitants to vivid life. I miss my Rotherweird friends already.

A brilliant culmination of the trilogy

The Rotherweird trilogy creates a world that is quirky, charming, intriguing and captivating. I'm really sorry its finished! It has shades of Mervyn Peak and even Harry Potter, but is also uniquely itself. The wonderful complexity of the plot means it can take rereading and I have now read the whole thing twice and enjoyed it just as much the second time. I'm so pleased to have discovered it and look forward to whatever the author writes next. The narration was brilliant.

Good but was expecting something much darker

I loved the first two books and was looking forward to a really dark and disturbing section before getting to the part where the good guys save the day. It wasn't anywhere as dark as I hoped for and even after a couple of listens I'm not entirely convinced I understand some parts of the story (or that parts of the story make sense). Still it is a good story.

Fantastic trilogy, well worth a listen.

A truly fantastic trilogy. Would make a cracking set of films too! Love Mr. Oblong!

Tediously overlong

A disappointing ending from a clever and entertaining beginning
The first 2 book were engaging and developed a believable parallel England- the return of Winter (can spring be far behind) was trite and ground along at a funereal pace, like creeping frost.
Even the favourite characters, Vallahand, Rock, the “historian” Oblong, began to drag.
I abandoned the unequal task and skipped to the end- a thing I never do. There WAS more in Rotherweird: this just wasn’t it
