Publisher's Summary

Lord Fenton is a gambler and a dandy, and he will be stripped of his wealth and position unless he rises to his responsibility - one of which is to marry. Far from being a giddy groom, Fenton chooses the unobjectionable Alice Stanbridge simply because he knew her as a young girl, and his mother feels Alice would make a good wife. Alice, however, has harbored feelings for Fenton since their first meeting years ago, and his proposal is a dream come true. Not only will a match with the most eligible bachelor in London secure her future, but it will also give her a place of distinction and admiration. Had anyone admired Alice for anything before now?

When Alice learns that she is not only an unwanted wife but a demanded one, however, she closes her heart. Only when Lord Fenton faces the greatest trial of his life does he begin to find love beyond the folly. Could a great love come from a beginning such as this?

A wonderful depth to the characters

Starts like many other (good and enjoyable) regency romances, but ends heads and shoulders above them. I rarely laugh out loud or cry during stories, but I did both during this one.

Loved it

I’m actually writing a review because this book was awesome. I wish it had two more chapters or so. I’d read it in a heartbeat. Fan fiction anyone?

Not light-hearted but beautiful nonetheless

The beginning was a bit tough for me at times because of the couple's continual arguments. (I grew up in a home with parents who fought constantly.) But, I stuck with the book and was able to enjoy the transformation of both characters in their own growth and in their growing affection and dedication to each another. The story also touched upon sacrificial love and unconditional love. A worthwhile read or, in my case, listen-to. (The narrator performed masterfully as always!)

Wonderful look into perspectives and relationships

I really enjoy that the story gives two different perspectives on this developing romance. The narrator does a wonderful job.

Struggling to finish this book.

I dislike both main characters. Both have very few admirable characteristics and by the time I have gotten half way through the book i have found them both extremely tedious.
