About this listen

Brought to you by Puffin.

The thirteenth book in the beloved, bestselling Redwall saga - soon to be a major Netflix movie!

Salamandastron, under the guardianship of old Lord Stonepaw, is under threat from an enemy of immense and terrifying power. Ungatt Trunn, the wildcat who can make the stars fall from the sky, has attacked with his Blue Hordes and is determined that the fortress should be his. The mountain's defences are weak and it seems that nothing can stand in his way.

Nothing, that is, but the badger Lord Brocktree, who is drawn to Salamandastron by an undeniable sense of duty. But if he is to rescue the mountain from Trunn and his verminous hordes, he must gather about him an army capable of defeating them in battle. Together with the irrepressible haremaid, Dotti, and a host of brave creatures, Brocktree journeys to Salamandastron to fulfil his destiny.

Different but splendid

For those accustomed to the author narration and full cast versions of Redwall audiobooks, this will take a little adjustment. That being said, the story is as solid as ever, as we’re regaled with the tale of the indomitable Lord Brocktree. Mr. Faulkner does a great job bringing life to a hefty cast and his cadence is splendid.

Great to have 1 of the gaps in this series filled

Redwall has been one of my favorite series ever since I read Mossflower 20 years ago. Now as a busy adult I dont have a lot of time for reading but I can listen to Audiobooks while commuting or completing tasks, and I enjoy going through the Redwall series every couple years. It's always disappointed me that 3 of my favorites (Lord Brocktree, Pearls of Lutra, and Marlfox) weren't available on Audio so I was so excited when I saw this was available.

I really enjoyed the previous books full cast so I was concerned about having a new narrator, but overall he did a fantastic job. I really hope he records the other missing Redwall books as well.

Excellent story, but narrator struggled with pronunciation and accents

Great to see the audiobooks continuing. Hope for future ones, the narrator will prep for on Jacques’ pronunciations and accents. It brings you out of the story when things are mispronounced.

Good reader

I'm used to the full cast performance recordings but I still enjoyed this reader.

An Old Favorite Finally on Audio!

I looked forward to this! While not the same as the full-cast productions, still highly enjoyable and the narrator does justice to the various dialects and voices.

Great story as always…wrong choice for narrating

James Faulkner did his best but for a Redwall book they should stick with the full cast. It is hard to tell who is speaking at times and I find myself rewinding now and again cause I am lost. It is another great book but they should stick with full cast

Voice actor.

I liked it all. I didn't dislike it. I have to meet the fifteen word limit to submit my 5 stars.

another good one.

My heart soared when i saw this new recording, Lord Brocktree is one of my favorites of the Redwall novels. i miss hear Mr. Jacques and his crew reading the stories like an audio play, but Mr. Faulkner has a great voice and i believe that if he (or other possible narrators) goes back and listens to the older recording and learns how alot of things are pronounced and how mole speech sounds the new recordings will do just as well and the classics.

Great story and read extremely well!

James Faulkner gives an excellent performance! On par with the late Tony Jay when it comes to deep voiced narration. While not a full cast like the past audiobooks have had, James does an excelent job with character voices. A fun listen!
