Stella Familiar was created by the London Coven out of spit and blood.

She’s a fighter, a blunt instrument, built to destroy the forces of evil and keep peace in the capital.

She’s carried out her duty for decades, but when the witches who gave birth to her are butchered, it’s up to her alone to save a city of nine million people.

Awesome Narration, Great Series! (Love David!!)

I want to start this review by complimenting the narrator Heather Tracy.
The narration was exceptionally well done and I enjoyed it so much.
I especially loved the parts when the Main Character, Stella Familiar, get angry/ heated.. it's so well done it really felt like Heather felt the emotions too while performing.
And there is a Character in the series that uses a different voice for every word in the same sentence. As you can imagine that's a huge challenge to narrate, but this was also done perfectly. Bravo!

Stella is a likable and interesting Main Character and I loved the 'team up' with David.
David is personally responsible for 90% of the fun, laughs and lightheartedness the series, and you can't help but love him instantly.
It wouldn't been the same without him.

Despite this series containing so many elements I enjoy (excellent narration, urban-fantasy, first person narrative, surprising twists, fun and laughs, good stories, likable main and side characters, good writing) I wasn't as invested in the story as I would have liked/ expected.
I can't put a finger on why. (and maybe it's just because of my own mood?)
I did enjoy and finish the trilogy, and I think it deserves my 4/5 stars.

This trilogy is suitable for Adult (me) and Young Adult alike. (it didn't have the typical YA drama though, and for me that's a major plus!)
I thought it was more of a Mystery/ Urban-Fantasy than a Thriller.

I got this Audio Book for free (thanks!). I'm voluntarily leaving this review.

Well done

Looking at this book initially I was a bit skeptical. I'm a huge fan of books in general and I was bound to give this collection a try and force it to prove me wrong. Was I taken aback.

Stella was very well developed and drew me in pretty quickly and oddly I was taken back to Underworld but with a more developed heroine early in the story.

Highly recommend this.

Light and amusing

It's the characters that kept me coming back for more. They're quirky and charming with amusing dialog throughout the stories. I enjoyed listening to Stella Familiar's adventures with the Uncanny inhabitants of London, but I'd say these books are a bit like potato chips. You can't have just one and when you get to the bottom of the bag you're still hungry.

I'm also glad this is a three book collection, because the second story ends on an annoying cliffhanger. I was happy to not have to wait for or search out the third book as the audio segued right into it and addressed the cliffhanger immediately.

The stories themselves are not very deep and the plot lines are a bit loose on the resolution end, and Stella does bang on a bit about the loss of her coven, but what made it all worthwhile was the superb narration. Heather Tracy has phenomenal voice skills and brings every character to life. She does an exceptional job with Mr Trick's unhinged, multi-voiced dialog. Not an easy feat and she makes it an effortless listening experience. Her comedic timing is perfect too. The many amusing exchanges in the books had me grinning or laughing out loud.

So, vivid and engaging, but not too deep. On the whole the London Coven omnibus is an enjoyable, easy listen.

Three books in 1 Audible book

This is a interesting concept dealing with the Familiar to a Coven of Witchs that killed. The MC is the Familiar and this is about how she tries to continue to protect London after her Coven is gone. The other MC is a Detective that she meets and they eventually become a team trying to protect London.

You're not even real, are you?

I have had so much fun with this series!
I'm not really a serious fantasy fan, but this certainly it's the right spot for me.
The story just suck me in. I love the humor they use in the series but they're equally good in building up to an emotional High Point just to drop you off a cliff.

Magical badassery breaking cliches

This 3 story omnibus is strung together as one in the Audible audiobook edition, so it's an awesome value. The stories are action-packed, full of surprises and cliche-breakers, and with interesting, layered characters. The narration is nearly perfect. The writing is mostly smooth, and highly original. No sex scenes or pouty damsels in distress in these books!

Book One: FAMILIAR MAGIC
Stella Familiar is not what I was expecting from a witch's familiar. She's not a pet - she is a kickass assassin, messenger, and magical dogsbody for the trio of witches that protect London. When she is orphaned by the death of her coven, she is determined to find their killer and exact revenge. Other deaths point to a major badguy on the scene, and the stakes are escalated. She has to make her own decisions for the first time, and decide what her life will be from this point forward. Luckily, she saves the life of a police detective who seems to want to partner up with her to discover and nullify the threat.

Book Two: NIGHTMARE REALM
Creepy but clever story in which Stella and David try to protect the children of London from a supernatural threat that captures kids using a scary playground rhyme to enchant them into a coma-like sleep. Unique storyline and lots of tension.

Book Three: DEADLY PORTENT
This was my favorite, probably for the addition of Eva Familiar. Eva is the foil for Stella's dedication to continue her mission to protect the city. Eva's coven are also gone, but she is rejecting all the old rules and living a lone wolf life of fistfights and alcohol. David's miracle resurrection comes back for its price, and a rogue succubus is on the loose, killing citizens. Who can Stella really rely on?

those carcasses speaking !

The narrator has an exceptionally warm, open, uplifting voice, from which she can also produce the most highly-charged dramatic moments in a still very listenable way, then go even further, into unrecognisable sounds, everything from dried-up carcasses speaking, to an extra-larger-than-life, centuries-old Cumbrian witch’s familiar on a drunken psychological quest-spree in London !

Amazing Stella and her Sidekick David The Detective

I have been both amazed and stunned with both the story and the narration in this book series.

Story:
I love the new spin on a witches familiar that this talented author has penned. It brought a unique look at the possibilities that such a creature/person could bring to a Coven.
Stella was an amazing strong main female character with a strong backbone and a balanced approach to what she deemed to be right or wrong. As the story progressed through the series I loved watching the growth of Stella and those she interacted with along the way. Including her relationship with the delectable detective David. This is a fantastic series and one I would highly recommend.

Narration:
Heather Tracy has weaved magic in the voices of each character encountered making their world tangible to those listening. Her tone and lilt with each giving them uniqueness and individuality, something that can be difficult for many. She brought not only the main characters to life, but also the others they met along the way.
I truly enjoyed this series and I believe that was down to the delightful marriage of story and narrator.

A fantastic set

Format: audiobook
Narrator : Heather Tracy
This was a new to me author, I say was because after listening to this set I will be devouring as many books by these authors as possible. This is such an fantastic world to get lost in, I’m well and truly hooked.

Bk 1: Familiar Magic
Great start, dramatic, intriguing and grabs your attention instantly. Stella Familiar was created by a powerful coven, a lowly familiar! But when Stella is met with a horrific scene and then lands, quite literally, in front of detective David Tylor a hunt ensues to find the powerful creature threatening London.
A fabulous story with twists and tricks to keep you guessing and the Narrator does a fantastic job.

Bk 2: Nightmare Realm
Stella Familiar is all that is left from the London Coven but she’s just a familiar, how is she expected to keep London safe? Until a new trio of witches comes she is all there is.
When every child in the city both normal and supernatural is in danger Stella much face the nightmare of saving them alone, or is she? there’s some interesting things going on with detective David Tylor.
Another fantastic story helped alone by this awesome narrator.

Bk 3 : Deadly Portant
I’ve liked David’s sarcastic wit throughout these book but I love Eva familiar, several times in this story she’s had me chuckling even as the pressure on Stella increases, can she do what apparently needs to be done regarding David? Another fantastic story full of drama and excitement that kept me on the edge of my seat and left me wanting more, please tell me there’s more!
As well as seeking out more work by these authors I’ll definitely be looking at what else this narrator has done because she is brilliant.

Enjoyable story line.

Theses 3 books where great, I enjoyed the storyline and getting to know the 2 main characters.
Stella is a feisty, determined to continue what she was created for by her coven.
David brought some light relief.
I did struggle with the narrators performance.
Overall I enjoyed all books.

A good story, let down a little in narration

This is a good storyline, that deserved a better narrator, I have to say. The voice actress was sometimes underwhelming, unconvincing and even led me to have to force myself to continue to listen, at times.

Indeed, there were moments when, if it hadn’t been for the fact that I’ve read their other stories and even chatted with the chaps from the universe behind these novels, I might not have bothered. But I know they are better than the narrator sometimes made of their tales, and that they deserved to be heard.

On reflection, if I had to do it over again, I might have opted for the Kindle versions, as she was okay, but never really sold me on the character - her acting, accents and range of voices was just... a bit lacking - and this was all too evident for me, by the end, as I had to keep checking which character was speaking. When they all start to sound alike, it’s not a great experience. Okay, but not great.

So a sound four stars for the overall, and the story, but sadly it’s a three - maybe a three-point-five? - for the narrator.

A fun collection of novellas

These 3 novellas follow on directly from each other making the collection of 3 a cohesive unit.

I have read a lot of urban fantasy as this was a fun different version, focussing on a witch coven’s familiar as the main character.

I found the characters and the stories to be engaging and it left me wanting to read more
