Publisher's summary

Logan is running with the fate of the world in his hands.

Earth is free and at peace at last. But not the Earth on which Logan stands. For him a nightmare has just begun.

In the 23rd century on Parallel Earth, your 21st birthday is your Lastday. Parallel Earth is a dazzling paradise of artificial delight - of instant pleasure and infinite joy.

Here, in a terrifying computerized society controlled by ruthless police assassins, is the world that Logan once destroyed.

Now his fate is to live that horror once again.

Feels like a TTRPG.

For some reason, the Logan's Run series so far feels like someone is recounting the plot of a 1980's era Gamma World campaign. And I'm 100% on board with it. No it doesn't make total sense and there are plenty of "WTF?" moments but overall it's a good listen!

Better than the last

The third book was much better than the second book, but not quite as good as the first. Reminded me of a Star Trek episode.

What could have been.

I'm sure Nolan got many questions in his career about the society in which Logan's Run took place. It seems that Logan's Search was an opportunity for the author to explore that world a little more. It was fairly done.

Logan's search for a story

Is there anything you would change about this book?

A tired retread. Contrived. Third time not a charm, closer to a curse. Maybe if instead of imaging a world of DS and a computer running everything, make it a world that entirely avoided the whole issue.

What could William F. Nolan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

After listening to the whole thing, I could see my inner fourteen year being semi satisfied. When I heard that the story was written in 1980, I gave it another pass. Ultimately, it's a bust. I got the feeling that "alternate" world new places didn't really care about the palm crystals. I barely cared the characters, except for some vague memories of when I was a child and enjoyed them. One other thing: "Logan felt angry" refrained a lot throughout the story, like a cliche that was a trigger for more tired story telling.

What three words best describe Oliver Wyman’s performance?

Consistent. Forced.Forgettable.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Never

Any additional comments?

Aliens were absurd.
Story was sloppy from beginning to end.
I was not expecting much, but this was really so poor, if I can keep another soul from listening I will have made the world a better place.

Amazing ending

I had no idea what you expect and thought I wasn't going to like until Logan was convicted and the story got much better. The ending was perfect. It sowed up most of the questions I had from the previous books and left me chuckling about the unanswered ones. Spot on narration! Bravo!

More to the Logan's Run story

This is book 2 of 3, which I'm reviewing as a set. I enjoyed the movie (and somewhat, the TV series), so I was drawn to the audiobook. I wouldn't consider Logan's run good writing, at all, but I found it entertaining, none-the-less. The characters are extremely shallow, the plot contrived, and there are serious flaws in the whole concept. Still, if you have good feelings about the movie, you'll find this series tolerable.

The first book in the series is the movie (with some differences). The second two books in the series continue the story. Book two is essentially a "return of Logan" that quickly breaks down into a haphazard search for his lost wife ending in a somewhat disappointing battle royal. Book three is an alternative reality 'cheat' to put a different twist on the first book.

The performance is not good. The reader talks very slow which tends to sap the energy out of the story. However, I found that my iPod allows me to increase the speed (x2) which made it very comfortable with minimal distortion in only a few spots. I would totally recommend you do the same. I find it hard to beleive that the producers couldn't do this for us!

All-in-all, if you are listening to the series for the sake of nostalgia, then you'll probably have a good time.

Not as good as the first and second book

Not as good as the first and second book. This book remind me of TV show Dallas where a whole season was a dream.

Slow and Weird

Like the other two books in the series, the narrator appeared to be heavily medicated, talking extremely slowly, compared to any other narrators. Listening to it on normal speed was like wading through molasses. Had to listen at 1.6 times speed just to make it bearable. Minor Spoiler: The story itself was the worst of the three because it came out of left field. Having the entire story take place on an alternate earth different from the ones in the previous two books and was weird. I love alternate reality books, but for the Logan series this made no sense. There was no indication in the first two books that there were other realities, or anything going on other than what it appeared to be.
