Publisher's summary

Danger and passion fuse in this electrifying GhostWalker novel from number one New York Times best-selling author Christine Feehan.

GhostWalker Rubin Campos' rough upbringing made him into the man he is today: strong, steadfast, and wary of outsiders. When he and his brother return to their family's homestead in the Appalachian Mountains, he can immediately sense that a stranger has taken up residence in their cabin - a woman who just happens to be a GhostWalker too.

Jonquille is deceptively delicate but clearly a fighter. She also doesn't seem to care that Rubin could kill her where she stands. She sought him out, wanting to connect on their shared interest in electrical charges. One of the first failed GhostWalker experiments, Jonquille can produce lightning with her body, but she can't control it.

Their connection is magnetic, their abilities in sync. Rubin knows she's his match, the answer to a lifetime of pain and intense loneliness. But Jonquille came to him with hidden intentions, ones that threaten to destroy their bond before it can truly begin....

Fireflies

The only thing that is the same as other series is there's a malevolent older male figure. In this book the psychic abilities aren't natural they are physically enhanced. Always love the way Christine Feehan writes with Jim Frangione as narrator. I don't want to say more because of spoilers.

Perfect

As expected, this installation was perfect.

For some reason however I can't seem to remember the overprotective nature that the main character keeps bringing up from the previous novels.

Truly a great story on Healing!

The family connections throughout this book had me in feeling so good. The care & commitment to their childhood community had me so in love with the 2 brothers .

Wow!!!

A few surprises in this one. Loved this latest installment in the Ghost Walker series. We get the story of the elder Campo brother Rubin when he meets his paired mate Jonquille. With these two the sparks will fly. Also in this book, part of a long standing question will be answered. As to subject matter we meet someone just as bad as Whitney if not worse. The concept is mind boggling but makes for an interesting storyline. Great story, well worth the wait.

solid 3.5 stars

Read on it's own (although it may be confusing without some background) the story itself is interesting with a reasonable pace. Jim Franjione has good inflections and each character has distinct voices, so its easy to tell them apart and the narration quality is consistent.

⚠ The rest of this review is my own personal note and reminder for the next time I do a Series re-listen.... you don't need to waste your time reading any further, it's going to be harsh - 17 credits and more than 200 hours into a series, I want to remind myself how it really was.
-----
As part of the GhostWalker series it's 3.5 stars.
📖 Story comment: • Pace was OK, but there was nothing that really got me "pumped" to keep listening . • I didn't really connect to either of the main characters, and it took me a while to warm up to Rubin. • The whole "pairing to use lightning" was a little far fetched - even for the GhostWalkers. • There isn't enough interaction with the rest of the team, although some members of the other Teams did make an appearance in this one.
• Team 4 being dubbed "perfect", has made the characters abilities too strong so the stories are becoming unrealistic. I would prefer this series was wound up, not introducing new characters and a new villain, The last few books haven't been as good as the first half of the series. This is probably a good exit point for me.

🎧 Narration: I can enjoy a weak story if the narration is good - but from the beginning I set the audio speed at 1.2x and doubled it up through the sex scenes. Franjione's narration style is too passive and doesn't intone the right underlying level of strength and tension the GhostWalkers should have.

📌 Where does it sit on my personal scale? 4 • I miss the quality writing that was the beginning of this series - and it needs a different narrator.
• 1 not my thing • 2 didn't like the narration • 3 didn't keep my attention • 4 was good, but once was enough • 5 enjoyed it • 6 will listen again if i'm in the mood for the narrator • 7 goes on the "re-listen" list • 8 kept me up past bed-time • 9 recommended to family/friends • 10 own it in multiple formats • 11 keep a copy with me at all times
