Publisher's Summary

Three women, united by love and kinship, struggle to conform to the social norms of the times in which they live.

In 1931 Katherine Henderson leaves behind her small town in Kansas and the marriage proposal of a local boy to live on her own and work at the Sears & Roebuck glove counter in Chicago. There she meets Annie - a bold, outspoken feminist who challenges Katherine's idea of who she thinks she is and what she thinks she wants in life.

In 1997 Katherine's daughter, Joan, travels to Lawrence, Kansas, to clean out her estranged mother's house. Hidden away in an old suitcase, she finds a wooden box containing trinkets and a packet of sealed letters to a person identified only by a first initial.

Joan reads the unsent letters and discovers a woman completely different from the aloof and unyielding mother of her youth - a woman who had loved deeply and lost that love to circumstances beyond her control. Now she just has to find the strength to use the healing power of empathy and forgiveness to live the life she's always wanted to live.

Wonderful

I had read the book and loved it. I thought the audio was wonderful too. I found myself looking for excuse to take a drive or do yard work. Anything to slip on my ear buds and get back to the story.

Beautifully written story of love and friendship.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of love and friendship. The mystery behind Catherine and Annie's love affair was especially exciting! I would love to read a "prequel" about Annie.

nice book

** spoilers**
very enjoyable book. the overall story had what she needed for a good romance novel with believable characters and the right amount of "mush." although I did find the characters believable I didn't particularly like Kate. I understand it was a period piece and lesbians of the day had to hide but I thought Kate was way too wishy-washy even for those days.
I did think that some of the passion parts must have been edited out of the book and thought there was more description of the rape scene then there was of Kate and Annie's lovemaking. of that I found it disappointing. Also not 100% sold and the ending. it seemed to be going in a certain direction but then took a total U-turn at the end.
I thought the performance by the narrator was did a fantastic job and hope to hear her more of her in the future.

Loved Letters Never Sent!

Where does Letters Never Sent rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the top of my list for sure!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Annie of course! She was a woman ahead of her time! Bold, honest and true to herself.

What about Lisa Larsen’s performance did you like?

Her voice was super easy to listen too!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES, unfortunately time did not permit :-)

Any additional comments?

One of my all time favorite books!!!

Wonderful tale through time.

I love the story. The characters connections and the way the storyline moves through time. I wish the reader had been a bit more animated in the reading of the book. It felt like she was reading a letter.

The way the plot comes out slowly is excellent it took till almost the last hour when I could guess who was who. Loved it. The narration was one of the best.

Annie & Kate both annoyed me Annie cuz she wouldn’t stand up to kate until close to the end & Kate because she pushed her away waaaaay tooo often but in the end it made for a GREAT love story! :)

Exquisite story..

I can honestly say that this is one of the best lesbian novels of all time, and that's without exaggeration. I purchased it and it stood in my library for a while because I had a prejugdement that the story was probably a romantic cliché. Now I'm after everything Moran wrote and devastated to learn that she passed away in 2015. What an emotional roller-coaster this story is. And a must-read for everyone who is searching their true identity. Listened it a second time immediately after I finished. It is now a permament item of my library.
