Brought to Casey as a short-term emergency placement, 14-year-old Adrianna arrives with nothing but her gratitude. Having turned herself in to a social services office some 100 miles away, she has no possessions, no English and, apparently, no history - not that she's willing to share, anyway. After taking a few weeks off work, Casey is presented with a new foster child: 14-year-old Elise, whose Mum left her at just five years old. At first, she’s no trouble at all, that is until she falsely accuses another carer, Jan, of acting inappropriately towards her. It turns out this isn’t the first lie Elise has told—her previous carer was constantly following up allegations Elise had made of people bullying her, trying to have sex with her or hurting her physically.

Publisher's Summary
Let Me Go is the powerful new memoir from foster carer and Sunday Times best-selling author Casey Watson.
Harley, 13, has been sectioned under the mental health act after attempting suicide. She was spotted climbing the railings on a footbridge that crossed a busy motorway and pulled to safety by a member of the public. After six weeks in hospital, social services are looking for a short-term placement so she can be kept safe while family therapy takes place. Harley has a family - a widowed mother and an older sister, Milly, who left home with her long-term boyfriend just over a year ago. There is no prospect of Harley going home just yet, though, as her mum, who has learning difficulties and addiction issues, feels she cannot cope. So she arrives with Casey and Mike under a 28-day care order.
As Harley tries to hurl herself out of the moving car on the way home, it quickly becomes clear she is in urgent need of help. Three weeks into the placement, after Harley has made various attempts to abscond, it seems like zero progress is being made. Then all of sudden there is an unexpected breakthrough and light at the end of a long, dark tunnel, but only once Harley is finally able to share the truth about the abuse she suffered at the hands of a very dangerous man.

Another heartfelt story; with greatly improved narration
Firstly, I would like to talk about the narration. I have listened to all Casey Watson’s previous audio books, and have read most of her books that are not on Audible. Referring to previous Watson books on Audible, I know there are many negative reviews on the narrative style of Kate Lock. I was not a fan of her style of narration either. However, with this book it appears that Kate Lock took all criticism from previous recordings and made a conscientious effort to rectify that. Great job, Kate Lock!
I’ve been a Casey Watson reader since before becoming an Audible member a good number of years ago. (My favourite book is definitely still Tyler’s story). Harley’s story is not as motivational as other fostering memoirs (although still very gripping), probably due to the UK system becoming even more messed up than what it already was. 28 Day placements??? The person who came up with that should not be allowed to work with vulnerable children AT ALL.
As someone who works with vulnerable children and an adoption activist in a developing country, I find inspiration in fostering memoirs of Casey Watson and other similar writers- mainly because it makes me grateful that, no matter how messed up the laws and systems are in my country, it is still much, much better than that of the UK.

Terrible narration!
I’m not sure what’s going on with the narrator... it sounds like she’s reading with the commas and full stops in all the wrong places, as well as every other word being paused on and emphasised! Strange accents really drove the nail in. Incredibly frustrating listening to this. It makes the author look very unprofessional, patronising and miserable.

Casey Watson has a chip on her shoulder
And seems completely unable to overcome her resentment of professionals working with young people, who, it turns out, were right all along in their assessment that the cause of Harley's problems was environmental. Perhaps she should consider retirement if she really can't keep up with the "new fangled" approaches.
Awful narration - the narrator affects a ridiculous, semi-hysterical voice for Harley (and plenty of other characters) that is incredibly grating. She should stick with her almost passable Scouser when she wants to add in some variety.
Will avoid other books by this author, and any with this narrator, entirely.

Great memoir
1st book/audiobook I've had of Casey Watson's fostering memoirs and I enjoyed it. She adds a lot of personality, family life & her inner-monologue into the story more than others which made you feel more involved & got to know Casey, her family & Foster children.
My only gripe is that Kate Lock's narration, more so accents were a little iffy at times! For example, Casey starts with a what I'd call South London accent, but that varies during the book from being pretty common/a proper 'Souuuthhh London accent to a more well- spoken gentle accent, especially after she'd been conversating with the social worker or Foster child Harley as an example!
However, aside from her patchy accents, I think she did a great job portraying Casey's memoirs & emotions and doesn't take away from overall audible experience 👍
