Publisher's summary

Martin Hansen left his family's home in Arendal to sail for America and follow his dreams. On the ship he meets the enigmatic Dagny, traveling with a man who calls himself her brother. Martin and Dagny become good friends - until passengers' stolen jewels are found in her trunk. Martin believes so strongly in Dagny's innocence that he provides her with an alibi - though it ruins her reputation. Now shunned by the other passengers, Martin and Dagny try to prove the identity of the true criminal, while facing unexpectedly deadly circumstances when leaving Norway.

Narrator was a real turn-off

Is there anything you would change about this book?

People in 1700s did not speak with contractions the way this writer uses them. Would have been interested in more historical (if accurately researched) notes- what did they eat on board ship? He hinted at a subplot about the card-playing but didn't go anywhere with it. Did not at all explain why the old gent would show the bad guy his wife's necklace-- I thought it was a gambling debt but that piece of plot was dropped. Sex scenes were gratuitous, not needed or unfitting level of detail.

How could the performance have been better?

The guy sounds like a rural radio news reader.

Could you see Leaving Norway being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not without LOTS of re-writing.
