We reinforce addictions by giving into them, but what is there to do when we get that "itchy" feeling? Learning to Stay Present shares insights for peacefully refraining from the "urge to scratch." In this recording from a live event with Pema Chodron, she discusses the ineffable quality known in the Buddhist tradition as shenpam a pre-emotional feeling that arises in us, brings discomfort, and often leads to unskillful, habitual reactions.

This author was highly recommended on an Amazon page for another book on meditation. I decided to give her a try and think she is terrific. I like the content and the sound of her voice. Just listening to her makes me want to buy into what she is saying. She is very authentic and believable.

Completely relatable and necessary. The gong exercise was amazing. Best section for me was about understanding pain as a “blessing in disguise” and using the wisdom/clarity of healing to stop feeling “itchy.”

Simply wonderful

I love Pema Chödrön. Her voice is soothing and her choice of words touch me deeply. I am excited for the future books and lessons I am blessed to have found. I am learning to recognize the present and myself in it. The gongs can never be enough.
So very relaxing.

Pema has a gift of cutting through all the crazy inside our minds and soothing the human experience. I’m grateful for this small work of hers and all the others!
