Publisher's Summary

"One day I was 12 years old and broke. I set out to mow some lawns with Grandpa's old riding mower. One client was Arnold the stockbroker, who offered to teach me about: the beauty of capitalism. Supply and demand. Diversifying labor. Distributing the wealth. 'It's groovy, man,' Arnold said.

"The grass grew, and so did business. Arnold invested my money in many things. One of them was a prizefighter. All of a sudden I was the sponsor of my very own fighter, Joey Pow. That's when my 12th summer got really interesting."

Gary Paulsen's comic story about a summer job becomes a slapstick lesson in business as one boy turns a mountain of grass into a mountain of cash.

Great Summer Read

Where does Lawn Boy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of my favorite quick books!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lawn Boy?

My favorite moment is when the main character learns how much money he has.

Which scene was your favorite?

My students crack up laughing when the wrestler "pounds" the thugs.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made my 4th grade students laugh out loud many times.

Any additional comments?

This is a great class book for the end of the school year, it keeps the kids very engaged during a time where attention span is almost nonexistent! I would also highly recommend it for a summer book or for reluctant readers.

Great Children's Story

I purchased this book for my 10 yr old to inspire him to read about things he was interested in. I started reading it too & couldn't put it down. It was very entertaining. Therefore, I bought the sequel, Lawn Boy returns & it was equally entertaining. My son enjoyed it as well.
