Engaging Story

My 6, 11, and 13 year olds enjoyed this, and so did I. The story draws you in from the start and you don't want to stop listening. and the narrator has a very pleasant voice and does and excellent job with each character.

Sweet story with a good life lesson. Suzy Jackson is one of my favorite narrators.

Good story

I thought this had a good storyline, the struggles of being without a home, the emotions that go along with that and the “solutions” one will try to make things better.

This was a great book. The narrator was perfect. I read this book every night, and one night, "The end". This is a really good book. I hope Barbara 'O Conner can continue to make awesome books like these.

Plz don't steal a dog!

This book is about agony. The main character, Georgina’s agony was about whether to steal a dog and get the money or not. Making a decision is sometimes very hard. Especially, when the decision that you’re going to make is a moral problem, but when you desperately need it. When you must make this kind of decision, its up to you! Just like the book says…

Quote: “Sometimes, the more you stir it, the worse in stinks.” (p. 135)

Sensitizing

What made the experience of listening to How to Steal a Dog the most enjoyable?

In reading "How To Steal A Dog" I was looking for a fun, escape type, read that might also help me think about a family member of mine that is not successful in life. The book was light hearted and fun, while reflecting a view of homelessness that I had never thought of, namely an adolescent view. Teenagers have enough to deal with in our culture with out adding homelessness to the mix. I enjoyed the basic ideas put forth by the daughter, because they sensitized me, somewhat, to both the presence and problems of homeless teens.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I enjoyed the ending, because it revitalized old maxims of hard work, faith in goodness, and honesty. These are shmultzy ideas, but I think our world has lost faith in them. We might have even lost sight of them. Does anyone value "hard work"?

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was the discovery of a repaired car. Again it is shmultzy, but actually true enough in real life. I have personally benefited from the ravings of a homeless man once in my life. I found that odd.

Any additional comments?

I only rated this story with three stars, because it is ultimately a distasteful idea, namely the idea of stealing a pet. It never really overcame the horror of that. I did enjoy the book and may read it again someday, but only lightly recommend it.

What a cute book

I wasn’t sure about this one but ended up really enjoyed it. Good book. Hopefully there will be more from this author

Great audiobook

My son and I listened to this audiobook together for a book report. It was as fantastic.
