I like to go back and read this from time to time. The audible version is even better, hearing it in Gary Paulsens own voice.

I heard this book over 15 years ago. It made me want to go to Alaska. I finally went this year. So, yes.

He has this really droll, deadpan narration that draws you in.

An idiot and his dogs. Also, carnivorous squirrel.

I first heard this audiobook on cassette at a local library. Checked it out several times. Got the audible version and was transported back. So haunting, mysterious, funny, down-to-earth. I've listened to it more than 8 times, and it makes me cry every time.

Missing content

The book is missing the last four chapters. This was not helpful at all. The voice was fine. I’m glad this one was free.
