A first-person history of the action seen by the United States airborne infantry brigade in Vietnam, from a Silver Star awarded Command Sergeant Major.

A no-holds-barred, straight-in-your-face account of combat in Vietnam. You know it's going to be hot when your brigade is referred to as a Fireball unit. From May 1967 through May 1968, Ted Arthurs was in the thick of it, humping an eighty-pound rucksack through triple canopy jungle, chasing down the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam. As sergeant major for a battalion of eight-hundred men, it was his job to see them through this jungle hell and get them back home again.

I've grown to most love firsthand accounts from those that were there and fought. I have also grown tired of the mostly blood and guts stories full of nothing but adrenaline-fueled tales of battle and dishonesties of things that are perhaps less-than-honorable.

This book delivers much to me because it is a very personal and honest story from a guy who was there. It is full of accounts of the big personalities as well as the small, heroes, cowards, their sorrow, joy, fears, practical jokes and thrills.

I hate the AI reading, but other than that, I highly recommend it. I had to turn the speed up to 1.45 or I fell asleep due to the drone of the AI reading.

A little different in a good way.

The author writes a detailed account of his spent in combat during the Vietnam War. It is often repetitive. He restates the same facts repeatedly as if the reader hasn’t read previous chapters. I was surprised his editor didn’t cut back on the repetitive writing. The audiobook was performed well with excellent diction. Overall it is a very good book providing a detailed account of combat and life during the Vietnam War. These men were tough. The carried heavy loads in brutal conditions; not for the weak. And they were being shot and mortared while doing it. Few could handle the duty.

Details a plenty!

Nothing. It was an overall excellent story. Narrator was perfect for the story. I will listen again for sure

Great non fiction Vietnam

Great first person perspective. Chronological weak but a minor blip. The Vietnam war had no clear objective and this book proves it.

Brave men. Wasteful war fro today’s perspective.

This is a MUST READ! It’s VERY detailed, and VERY entertaining! It also brought a tear to my eyes, on a couple of occasions.

AMAZING BOOK!! One of the best I’ve read/listened to, on the war!
