Here are some of the most courageous missions executed by six-man teams on their own deep behind enemy lines. Ranging from the Central Highlands to the Mekong Delta to excursions—authorized and unauthorized—into Cambodia, these gripping accounts begin when the call first went out for covert US long-range reconnaissance patrols in late 1965, continue through the battles of Tet, and go all the way up to the final, tortured pullout.

These are LRRP, LRP, and Ranger units at their finest, under the most desperate circumstances: one team surrounded by the enemy with no choice but to break out of the trap—or die, another caught in an ambush of horrific proportions. When recon missions suddenly became contact missions, when grenades started flying and AK-47s were smoking, each man's life was instantly on the line—and only his skills and the grit of his teammates could prevent certain death.

These highly trained warriors were among the best America had to offer, and they gave their best, no matter how high the price . . .

Narration is perfect! The book is a grouping of short stories. Actually, these stories reminded me of mission summaries following a “hot wash” or de-briefing. Although not noted in any of the accounts, these missions used reports of “enemy in contact” to identify areas to be hit with saturated bombing. Great read and gets my highly recommended

Great short stories of jungle warfare

It's a good collection of Vietnam War Ranger and LRP stories. Wasn't a fan of the performance, but the narratives were intriguing, like that of a series of war films.

A damn good Vietnam War history book

This is a compilation of stories covering LRRPS in Vietnam. By hearing these stories you get a good idea of how the LRRPS operated, what they did on “routine” missions, and what they had to deal with when in the field. These guys were amazing!

Excellent Incite Into LRRP Operation in Vietnam

Really good stories - narration works well enough.

Truly the only group pulling missions like SOG- already preordered the next in this series.

Raw and rare stories

Good book; interesting stories. I was expecting a continuous story about the LRRPs, what the book provides is a series of individual chapters where each chapter is about a single LRRP patrol.

I enjoyed the book and the stories and I am overall happy with the book. Would recommend.

Interesting but fragmented (intentionally)
