Publisher's summary

Fulfilling a lifetime mission is much more fun when romance is woven into the adventure.

The honorable Charlotte Blakely is closing in on the actual location of the Veil of Veronica, carrying on her beloved late grandfather’s quest. Satisfying his last wish is all she’s ever wanted from life...until the possibility of a courtship with the handsome English ambassador to Rome made itself known. But does love mean giving up her hard-won independence?

Mr. Everett Desmond spends far too much time behind a desk and entertaining dignitaries. He thought that was what he wanted from life...until an intriguing lady gave him a taste of adventure. But treasure-hunting comes at a price, and thanks to a failed engagement, he’s leery of romance.

Balancing each leg of the quest with the heat and passion simmering between them keeps Charlotte and Everett on the razor’s edge. When danger and death collide with the joy of adventure, truths they’ve denied themselves come into sharp focus. But with a bit of faith, they may discover a treasure far more priceless than a religious relic in their hands.

Very entertaining story

This was a good paced story with plenty of action and passion. Charlotte certainly knew her own mind and was determined to find the Veil of Veronica. She was intelligent and not afraid to go after what she wanted. Everett seemed to have the opposite life as a diplomat but they had a strong attraction and experienced many steamy times. Could it develop into something deeper due to Charlotte’s love of adventure? This has a number of dangerous moments and some surprises. A most entertaining story. Although the narrator used different voices to bring the characters to life, I didn’t find her voice easy to listen to at first. However, I did get more use to it as the story progressed.

What an Exciting Adventure!

I asked to receive this free review Audible book and wrote this unbiased review. Sandra Sookoo has written a story containing intrigue, adventure, greedy and vengeful villains, a couple finding true love when not looking for it, on the edge of your seat moments, and some paranormal moments. There is a great deal of character development. Charlotte seeks adventure and finds both good and bad in her quest to find the Veil. This leaves no time for romance. Everett is stuck in his lack luster job. Their chemistry is a slow burn but gears up as the story progresses. With Charlotte he finds the adventure that brings him to life. There will be possibly deadly moments at times.

The narrator does an excellent job of portraying the emotions and personalities of these characters. Her voice contributes immensely to the suspense and sensual love scenes. She is definitely a pleasure to listen to and enjoy. I highly recommend this Audible book.

Adventures in Time

A fun unusual take on a historic novel with the leading lady as the adventurous one. The romance is built over the course of the book to a believable HEA for the main characters as they pursue their mutual attraction and quest.

The narration by Jacqueline de Boer was fine but did not enhance the story. I did eventually adjust to her pitch and style to concentrate on the story.

I received this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
