"Confess!"

Patrick Lahm is down on his luck. Late for his book signing, out of gas, and stuck in a storm. He hitches a ride to the Kurtain Motel, where he is forced to spend the night. The small motel seems harmless enough at first, but as the night drags on, Patrick and the other guests slowly begin to realize there is a lot more to their temporary lodging than meets the eye.

Something evil is at work at the Kurtain Motel; something that creeps into the deepest, darkest corners of your mind and tugs at the chords of sanity until they finally break. On the longest night of his life, Patrick soon finds out that there is a reason why skeletons are kept in closets. He realizes that your sins always find a way to catch up with you, no matter how hard you try to run.

Welcome to the Kurtain Motel, where all your nightmares come true.

Confess!!

Patrick Lahm is on his way to a book signing when he has some car trouble. Through the storm he makes out lights coming towards him. A priest pulls up and Patrick gets a lift to the nearest town, but the storm is worsening and they decide to stop at the Kurtain Motel for the night. This turns out to be a massive mistake and the night seems never ending.

So I quite enjoyed this. While there are a few minor issues, overall it was thoroughly enjoyable. Plot wise, I was intrigued and interested in the whole plot. The setting of the motel was perfect because a creepy motel in a storm will always give you shivers!! Then we have the whole "confess" bit! That was initially confusing but once the story got going I was able to figure somethings out. I also loved the fact that everyone seems to have their own secrets.

One problem for me was the sheer number of characters. I found myself a little lost on who was talking at any given time, but it did eventually click for me and I was able to distinguish each one and kinda figure out what their secrets were. I really liked Patrick and am intrigued to find out what his secret is ;)

The minor issues for me were the fact that some of the characters weren't as developed as I would have liked. Also, when the boy came into the story, I thought, from the description, that he was really young, but near the end we find out his age. It just didn't add up! But as I said, these are minor issues and didn't detract from the creepiness of the story!!

Thom Bowers does a great job of capturing the atmosphere and bringing the book alive, I just found that he didn't differentiate some of the male characters enough. It took me a while to figure out which character was which. But he does read this well and is clear and concise, so in all, I did enjoy his performance.

I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

A Dark Psychological Thriller

This is a dark psychological thriller. You have a good storyline with great character building. You have creepy things happening. I love the characters. You have Jimmy Conner and Patrick, etc stopped at a motel for inclement weather. This book has good narration and maintains your interest. I enjoyed this book.

Hotel California, Steven King, and Dean Koontz.

This book is like the Eagles song Hotel California and the Twilight Zone in one, but Steven King and Dean Koontz decided to check in and write about their experience. That’s the best way I can describe this book of scary insanity. If you like stephen King and Dean Koontz as much as I do, or even if you only like one of them, then this book is just for you!

Kurtain Motel

For the most part, the story was ok. It wasn't terribly scary, but it kept me reading. The narrator did a good job of differentiating between the various characters, with only a few minor slips. I wish I could give this book a higher rating, but unfortunately, there are massive holes in the story. One character's sin was never revealed, while three other were never completely explained. The best character in the story was killed "off screen", while another lost their mind with no explanation given. I even checked the e-book to make sure there wasn't just a glitch in my audiobook, but sure enough, they matched. I don't know if it's laziness or inexperience on the author's part, but I really hope the rest of the series is better.

Couldn't Finish

This is possibly one of the worst books I've downloaded in years. There are so many characters, and none of them are interesting enough to care about. So, I couldn't even keep them straight. There is no original story here as far as I can tell. I was within an hour of finishing and could see there wasn't enough time for the story to go anywhere interesting and just stopped.

just meh

It wasn't bad...the performance was fine, but I was bored and found my mind wandering. I just wasn't captivated like I would have liked.

What a creepy story that would make a good movie

What would you do if you stopped for the night at a motel and couldn't leave? What if you kept hearing a voice telling you to confess while you were at the motel? This story was creepy and would make a great horror movie. Every time Patrick falls asleep he dreams of millions of spiders crawling out of everyone and everything around him and crawling on him. That would be enough to make me lose my mind....hate spiders. Even when you know something is wrong, how can you protect yourself from the unknown and the people around you it drives to madness????

I'm looking forward to reading the other stories in this series and hope they are as good as this one.

Wasted potential

It picks up at the end, but what comes before that is silly, poorly written nonsense that elicited more chuckles than scares. There's some decent action in the last few chapters - and that ultimately confused me. I wasn't totally sure whether it morphs into a different book entirely, or it's just the same book written by a different author. That's only enough to (begrudgingly) earn it second star.

I CONFESS! This sucks.

Praise for A.I. Nasser!!!!

I enjoyed investing my time in Patrick, and the Frey’s, and all that was missing was a sin eater! I’m looking forward to book 2!!!!
