Publisher's Summary

Mika Brzezinski's best-selling motivational guide - "a rallying cry for women to get the money they deserve" (TheAtlantic.com).

Why are women so often overlooked and underpaid? What are the real reasons men get raises more often than women? How can women ask for - and actually get - the money, the job, the recognition they deserve?

Prompted by her own experience as cohost of Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski asked a wide range of successful women to share the critical lessons they learned while moving up in their fields. Power players such as Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Harvard's Victoria Budson, comedian Susie Essman, and many more shared their surprising personal stories. They spoke candidly about why women are paid less and the pitfalls women face - and play into.

Now expanded to address gender dynamics in the #MeToo era, Know Your Value blends compelling personal stories with the latest research on why many women don't negotiate their compensation, why negotiating aggressively usually backfires, and what can be done about it.

For any woman who has ever wondered if her desire to be liked can be a liability (yes), if there is a way to reclaim her contribution after it's been co-opted in a meeting (yes), and if there are strategies men use to get ahead that women should too (yes!), Know Your Value provides vital advice to help women be their own best advocates.

Great testimony of how you learn your value.

I was good about this book by an instructor at my work place. I was intrigued and quickly downloaded it. I was expecting to be told how to know my value but was pleasantly surprised at how Mika handled the topic. the stories and interviews gave everything more meaning to hear how others have found their value. I wasn't impressed with the political talk but it didn't stop me from listening.

I Got a Raise!

My mom bought me this book and it changed my perspective completely. Literally after finishing it, I used to approach suggested and asked my bosses for a meeting to discuss my compensation. I was confident, short, and non-emotional. They told me that it’s been in the works, guaranteed an 8% raise, and told me they plan on putting me in a lead role and training others. If you have been working your butt off and feel underpaid and constantly question your value, get this book!!

Not necessary, too much hate

I listened to 90% because a friend suggested it. But I am deleting and never listening again because it's full of yuk about our President. Not necessary at all.

I couldn’t even finish it

I understand that it takes a certain level of self-importance to write an autobiography, but this was just intolerable.

Love the transparency!

I felt as though I related to Mika and all the woman in the book on some level. To know that I'm not the only one who has struggled with my value. Definitely a confidence booster and an opportunity to get real with myself. Definitely worth the read.

A bit too much about her career and trump

Parts of this book are good, the helpful parts we can all learn from about being confident at work, not apologising so much and learning to manage emotions a bit better...but most of it is just self promotion and has maybe been used as an opportunity to explain her side of some bad publicity stories. I had to skip through a lot of the my background/trump stories. It just didn't seem very relevant or relatable to me.
