Publisher's summary

In this audio-first rom com by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lauren Blakely, a scorching one-night stand with a stranger turns into a deliciously forbidden romance...

My first evening in London feels like kismet when I bump into a charming, book-loving Englishman, and by the end of the night, he’s making me see stars. I’m floating when we make plans to meet again.

Then fate decides to pull a fast one on me.

Turns out, my smoldering new lover is my red-hot competition, and we’re vying for the same promotion at the elite auction house I crossed an ocean for.

If that’s not enough, the hottie and I are forced to work together on a brand new collection. Every. Single. Tempting. Day.

What's an American woman in London to do?

Staying far, far away would be the safe choice, especially when I learn about his past and how it mirrors mine. But I don’t always play it safe with my heart…

Swoony and Steamy Romance!

Kismet by Lauren Blakely was a swoony and steamy whimsical romance that just gave me all the delicious happy feels. I loved Jo and Heath's whirlwind romance from start to finish, and could not stop listening. From the magical setting of London, to memorable characters, to all the spicy scenes, Lauren does what she does best absolutely sweeping me off my feet!

Shane East and Julia Whelan narrate the audio, and were a decadent audio delight. I was completely consumed in their performances of Heath and Jo. Shane East was perfection portraying the evolution of Heath from broody grumpy Brit, to caring, passionate lover. Julia Whelan portrayed Jo's ambitions, vulnerabilities, and past hurts brilliantly switching flawlessly between her American and British accents. Jo and Heath's chemistry was undeniable plus scorching hot, and you could feel all of this in Shane and Julia's narration!

Overall, I enjoyed this audio and story. If you love a one-night-stand to forever romance with a grumpy hunky Englishman who loves books, an ambitious American woman in London, super hot steamy times, a little friendly competition, supportive best friends, family drama, and an HEA that will paint your heart with giddiness and just make you smile, then you will love Jo and Heath's story. I always look forward to more from Lauren Blakely.

Love this Story

This is one of my favorite Lauren Blakely stories. I enjoyed the main characters — their lives were realistic — blending difficulty with hope and passion. I like having two narrators in a romance and these professionals did a wonderful job.

*happy sigh*

What an absolute #swoonfest this story turned out to be. It was poignant and humorous and everything in between! It was real and relatable and just plain fun! I laughed and I cried and I felt everything!

Both Julia Whelan & Shane East did a superb job bringing these characters to life thru their narration! Well done!

2nd chances and chosen families

We don’t always get what we need from our given family. We create a family we choose, just as Jo did in NY. Just like a true family they give her a nudge and then approval to pursue her love with Heath. He in turn finds a way to heal and love after loss.

London curmudgeon & the New Yorker who squees

The cartoon cover art is appropriately different from Blakely’s normal bare chested fare because this story is likewise sweeter. Blakely sticks to her playbook of white, thin, well-off couples finding love with minimal angst and sassy banter. However, she makes minor adjustments to this formula with varied success.

“Music is my Gatorade”
I like that she’s continued to expand inclusivity. In other books, this has been limited to kink-diversity and featuring MM couples. I’m still waiting for the curvy black beauty or the Latin male lead, but at least some of the supporting characters are diverse, even if they only have small appearances.

Romance twists are like “getting your face slapped with a salami”
I liked the older age of the couple and, as always, loved Shane East’s British accent. But, I’m not sure I bought the chemistry between Jo, a 32 year old New Yorker who “squees” in excitement and Zoom-binges romance shows with her pals, and Heath, an admitted 40 year old grump who disdains instagrams, tweets and coffee cup quips. I’m also not sure how I feel about the plausibility of these two hooking up for a one night stand- maybe I’m being ageist, but the idea of two allegedly put-together folks getting it on within hours of meeting for purposefully no-strings shagging seemed to be a plot left for a pair of barely twenty-something free birds.

“Bloody F ing London”
Perhaps the lack of sizzle for me had to do with Blakely’s two other formula adjustments. (1) Hurt from past loss and lies start our couple off with higher levels of pain to get through in order to find their HEA, making this more maudlin than usual. (2) The three get-togethers are practically (but not entirely) cozy. This better matched the overall “sweet rather than sassy” tone, but left me feeling a tad disappointed in the underutilized steaminess that is Shane East when narrating nooky. I also wonder why go with such tame scenes while still being willing to unload the occasional F bomb?

This was free in Audible Plus, and told a sweet and endearing, if rather tame, story.
Worth it for a one time listen, but not something that will stick with me or be listened to again.

⭐️⭐️ 4 Star ⭐️⭐️

I love a story about 2 people dealing with their own heartbreak and finding happiness together. I really loved the friendship Jo & Heath found together while trying not to fall in love, it made the love relationship even better since they started off their relationship so fast and then tried to back track. I also loved the ending because they both found a way to be happy without the other losing out on their dreams and happiness.

Loved the narration, both were perfectly cast. Julia Whelan is a favorite of mine and she has an awesome Male British accent which is always surprising. I was happy to see her working with Lauren and hope to hear more of her for Lauren's books.

Some things are meant to be!

As a huge believer in fate and Kismet, this book was right up my alley. Heath is a 40 year old widower working in London and avoiding the dreaded set-ups everyone is trying to force on him. Jo is a 32 year-old single woman who is having to move from New York to London to further her career. One magical night, being in the right place at just the right time, and everything changes, until the next day. No spoilers here, but this beautifully crafted story of fate, love, and chance encounters asks the question “What would you risk for love?” Shane East and Julia Whelan are a magnificent pairing and inhabit these characters so completely and genuinely that you don’t want the story ever to end. Low angst, plenty of steam, and just a perfectly lovely romance novel.

Fun and Fabulous Performances

Though steamier than my usual fare, this audiobook was “just what the doctor ordered.” @justjuliawhelan is always fantastic, an absolute pleasure to hear. Her partner in delectable narration is new to me but i plan to seek out more of his work. Thanks Audible for this delightful fantasy romp through lovely London!

Delightful!!!

What a perfect Valentines Day gift to myself. So so delightful. The drama is minimal the scenery is light and airy. If you have ever been to London and Paris then you know all the places Heath spoke about. Even if you haven’t you can just feel it. Get it you will not regret it! Have to give this a second listen!!! Worth the credit ❤️😉
