Autumn 1942. Hitler's legions have swept across Europe, France has fallen, Churchill and the English stand isolated on their island. In North Africa, Rommel and his Panzers have routed the British Eighth Army and stand poised to overrun Egypt, Suez, and the oil fields of the Middle East. With the outcome of the war hanging in the balance, the British hatch a desperate plan: send a small, highly mobile, and heavily armed force behind German lines to strike the blow that will stop the Afrika Korps in its tracks.

Steven Pressfield brings to life the flair, agility, and daring of this extraordinary historical commando unit, the Long Range Desert Group. He describes in detail the tactics, weaponry, and specialized skills needed for combat under extreme desert conditions. He captures, too, the camaraderie of this "band of brothers" as they perform the acts of courage and cunning crucial to the Allies' victory in North Africa. As in his acclaimed earlier novels, Pressfield combines historical accuracy and edge-of-your-seat battle scenes to create riveting fiction.

I have never read/listened to this author. I decided to give it a try and would like to say it was an excellent book. I enjoyed it and would recommend it if you like WWII action type of stories. I thought the ending was super.

It's oddly captivating to read a book of historical fiction where everything that happens in this story outside the main characters actually happened.

A solid book of historical fiction.

Great story and narration. Read it in 08. loved the audio in 21. Wish there were more unabridged Pressfield books.

one of the best Pressfield books ever

Mr. Molina brings this wonderful books characters to life. I was dubious, at the start, as our author set the stage, however I did not have to exercise much diligence, as patience was quickly rewarded with a page turning experience. Thank you, Mr. Pressfield, for your attention to detail and the portrayal of such valiant characters.

An inspired tale. Terrific narration!

Having just listened to Steven Pressfield’s “The Lion’s Gate”, I was wanting to listen to another of his books. “Killing Rommel” did not disappoint. It’s a great account of the North Africa campaign, the SAS & the LRDG, and Rommel. I highly recommend it!

And for those readers who do not like historical fiction, this book is much more “historical” than “fiction”. Though Pressfield’s research is - as usual - top-notch, he wasn’t in North Africa, and many of the primary sources & characters have passed away, so the book therefore has to be called “historical fiction” rather than “non-fiction”. Don’t let that stop you from reading this book; it’s excellent!

Great Story!
