Story
The happiest day of Payton Lambert's life was the day she graduated high school and watched Bald Knob, Kentucky, get smaller and smaller in her rearview mirror. Story
After spending my entire pro golfing career being known as the quiet, controlled, no-nonsense golfer, there's nothing more humiliating than throwing all of that down the drain on national television. Needing some place to hide, I can only think of one place I need to be. Summersweet Island, where they'll all be happy to have me home again. Well, except maybe one person. But I'm sure Birdie Bennett, my best friend since I was 15 and the clubhouse manager of my favorite golf course, has had plenty of time to forgive me for that tiny little misunderstanding.

Nothing good ever comes from drinking a box of wine alone. So when I decided to entertain my drunken self by setting up some hand-me-down podcasting equipment and reading the steamy parts from romance novels, I never thought anyone would actually listen. The fact that I admitted my huge crush on my sexy next door neighbor made the whole thing even more mortifying. But sometimes life surprises you, and that’s how my podcast, Heidi’s Discount Erotica, was born. Now I, Heidi Larsen, a sweet former kindergarten teacher in Waconia, Minnesota, lead a scandalous double life.

I knocked up my best friend's sister. Let's start with how she decided to inform me and Pacey the news...together. Imagine that nightmare. I was going into what I thought was a hockey marketing meeting, and then bam! I'm going to be a dad and my best friend/teammate is attempting to imprint my face with his fist. Threats were tossed around, friendships were revoked, and then I was marched up to her apartment, suitcases in hand, and forced to live with her so I could take care of her every need. Now I'm finding it harder and harder not to fall for my best friend's little sister.

Am I friends with JP Cane? Ha! That's laughable. Besides the fact that he’s adopted some far-fetched notion from the movie When Harry Met Sally that says men and women can't be friends and work together, it’s safe to say we're not friends. He's annoyingly loud, obnoxiously handsome, and has made an art out of poking all my hot buttons...multiple times a day. So you can imagine how disgruntled I am when I not only have to fly to San Francisco with him for work, but stay in the same penthouse. Yup, we're sharing the same air, 24-7. We're talking full-fledged working roommates.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Did you say you were happy? LOLOLOLOL!" ~ Life
Ember Hastings never thought she'd be dragged away from White Timber and everything she loved, thrust in the middle of a big city she hated, or have her husband of nine years say, "I can't do this anymore", all within the span of three months - yet here she is.
She misses her family, she misses the farm, and she misses having a backbone and caring whether or not the stain on her shirt is chocolate or s--t. She works from home doing transcription. Does she really need to shower or leave the house?
Baker Matthews has been bringing everyone down lately with his grouchy attitude. His job is stressful and sometimes depressing, but he wouldn't change anything about it. When a glitch with the transcription company he's using mistakenly sends him notes he wasn't supposed to see, Baker finds himself laughing out loud for the first time in months.
He's never met a woman who says whatever she's thinking and doesn't fawn all over him when she finds out what he does for a living. Until Ember Hastings comes barreling into his life, calling him S--t Mouth and asking if he has any balls.
But she wants to keep this professional. She made him pinky swear, and you don't mess around with pinky swears. Baker will have to get creative if he wants to prove to Ember that he's just her type.

NOBODY WRITES FUNNY LIKE THIS ROM COM QUEEN
Oh Tara, Tara, Tara.. yes, you certainly know how to write an easy-going, lol Rom Com.. and this lighthearted love story between Baker (a Gym owner/ex Army Vet.) and Ember (a divorced Mom) got me some disapproving stares in a lift full of strangers as I giggled my way to the 21st floor.. thanks Tara. No seriously, thanks Tara because this well-balanced dual POV story, with it’s quick-witted texts, emails and verbal banter, lifted my spirits, made me laugh, swoon and sigh as you conjured up some wickedly delicious, super-sweet and happy heartwarming mental images. Your secondary characters.. including the porn star hedgehog and Ember’s son Lincoln, were great and the perfect addition to make comedy gold.. acted out by two very capable narrators.
Worth a credit? Yes it 100% would’ve been.. but it’s another free Audible Escape book - so win win all round. And it’s great to know you haven’t been mugged by greedy authors/publishers hearing ka-ching.. ka-ching.. ka-ching as they split, drag or chop books into bite sized pieces.. unaware that it leaves us with the bitter aftertaste of an exploited unhappy fan. So grateful happy claps and a BIG thank you Audible/The Tara Sivec Team.

Great until the end
Loved the characters, they were funny and cute together. Even though Ember spends most of the beginning whining about her “single mom i’m so busy and my son always comes first”, she starts to become more likeable and balanced in the middle of the book. Then at the end, she just goes off the deep end, she’s mad that Baker assumes she would want to move her son back home (which she’s constantly whines about), she’s mad because she’s too “confused” to ask him if he can just wait until she sorts her crap out, shes mad because she has boxes packed up and he assumes she’s moving, she’s never said she loves him but assumes he should know how she feels (even though he’s clearly expressed his feelings), she’s actually more likely mad that she continues to let her douchebag ex run and manipulate her life, but instead she takes it out on Baker who has been nothing but supportive, understanding, and overly tolerant of her “baggage”.
It’s just too bad that she couldn’t just hold the progress she made emotionally through the end of the book. I guess it was supposed to make for one last dramatic end, but it just makes her seem like she emotionally regressed to her state at the beginning of the book, and then doesn’t seem to deserve Baker. She did go back to him, but only under her deluded idea that she’s angry and it’s his fault he can’t read her mind, instead of recognizing that she should have expressed herself to him and that’s the reason she goes back.
Great start, funny humor, but a terrible finale, which really kind of sours the HEA.
Also, semi spoiler - they never get around to addressing the ex. which seems unrealistic, given the joint custody they seem to share. It seems like a big issue, and could have been easily addressed by Ember continuing her big panty attitude, but instead she just tried to assault him and that’s the end of it.

The story isn't all bad, but it tended to be so cheesy and not in a good way. The female narrator's voice was grating and annoying and her voice acting needs work.

Loved it!
I enjoyed this book so much more than the first one that I had to listen to it a second time. My favorite part of the whole book has to be when Lincoln named his pet. It nearly caused me to wreck my truck. While I admire Ember for fighting her feelings, putting her son first, and not immediately jumping into bed with Baker, I felt she drug it out too much. While I am not a revengeful person, I thought the douchebag (I can't remember his name) ex-husband should have at least been punched in the face. Baker should have definitely let Ember get one good hit in before he grabbed her.
I recently found this author as I try to listen to all the Escape titles I can before they take away my drug of choice and I must say, I love her style. I hope in the future Audible adds her titles to the plus catalog.

Funny in Parts
Overall, not a bad story. Funny in different parts of the book. Narrators were good. Cliche in other parts. The "electricity" between them, the misunderstanding at the end, the sex scenes. Although I have to say those scenes didn't come right away in the story so that's a good thing. Some of the sarcasm was a bit much, especially with the female lead. I don't mind snarky or sarcasm but when it's constant, that's a bit much. I usually enjoy listening to Tara Sivec stories because there's humor involved.

Great... until Chapter 19
I read the first 18 chapters, which were really funny, then switched to Audible. It was instantly so irritating that I wanted to stab someone, perhaps me, to put myself out of the misery this book became. The female becomes such a neurotic twit I am still gagging. I discarded it in disgust in Chapter 21. I may go back to the written version, where I can more easily flip pages (or whole chapters) to see if it improves.
