Cyril Avery is not a real Avery - or at least that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he? Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead.

Story
Many of us are living with the sense that things are not right with the world, as global problems like the pandemic, the climate crisis, polarization, and social injustice mount, leaving us in a state of spiritual PTSD. We have retreated, morally and psychologically; we are experiencing a crisis of disconnection—from one another, from our true values, from joy, and from life as we feel we are meant to be living it. Sarah Wilson argues that this sense of despair and disconnection is ironically what unites us—that deep down, we are all feeling that same itch for a new way of living.

Publisher's Summary
Jump is the story of what happened when Daniella quit her job to backpack around the world for two years, and how freedom from the trappings of what society considers success leads to true contentment, strength and authenticity.
'The point of all this has nothing to do with finding yourself. It’s about what you can do to lose what you don't need.'
It’s a dark rainy afternoon on Dublin s jammed M50 motorway. The rain is hammering on the windscreen of Daniella Moyles car. She is 26, a highly successful radio presenter, model and influencer, but panic is building in her head and chest, the internal state of affairs she has been trying to ignore finally spilling over into something undeniably physical. She is frozen, petrified, looks to her boyfriend and says, 'I don’t know who or where I am.'
This day changed Daniella’s life. It derailed almost everything she had worked to achieve and set her on a new path.

Wasn't really sure what to expect!
I loved the teaser about 'losing it' on the motorway, but had little idea that it would turn out to be a mixture of a travel blog and a psychology book rolled into one. But it hit the right spot on every level. What could perhaps have turned into a bit of a wallow in self-pity I found this book to be inspiring and uplifting. Daniella's narration made it even more real, with her lilting accent and genuine warmth. She made me want to follow her on a map and then re-trace her steps through some of the most beautiful parts of our planet, whilst at the same time I found myself relating her own journey with that of someone close to me - whom I intend getting to listen to this book now. I hope that Daniella feels compelled to write a follow up one day as i'm sure her story can only get more interesting as the year's progress.

Loved it!
Loved Daniella's warts and all honesty. Proves how we are all human, experiencing life and living it as best we can. No one is perfect. Her telling the truth of certain parts, couldn't have been easy. But it's a testament to how courageous and strong a human being she is. I really hope she does some kind of a sequel to this along the lines of living and coping with anxiety, how you can still have a happy life. If anyone can advise on this, she can. What a woman! Well done on this inspiring book! X

An interesting listen
I did enjoy listening to this book and hearing about the authors story of how she found herself. It may appeal most to people who enjoy travelling as it takes you to some beautiful locations around the world. The authors narration is very good.
**Dont like the the books tag line - "One Girls Search For Meaning" - It will immediately make the reader compare it to the iconic book Viktor Frankl's "Mans Search For Meaning" and that is very difficult to compete against. I understand the logotherapy link, but it deserves its own unique tagline.

This book is full of quotes which I wish I’d come up with... the author, Daniela, perfectly describes some surprisingly relateable experiences, and subliminally sets out some challenges for the reader...
Like overcoming fears by facing them and taking back control... she writes in such an authentic, emotive and relatable way that inspired me to be better.

Brilliant insight with practical advice.
I picked this audio book out because of striking parallels to my own life. I also left the comfort of a stable job and life situation to explore the world because I felt something was missing. Without giving away my age that was a long time ago last century, so it was comforting to hear someone complete a parallel journey. I recommend this book to anyone searching for meaning or trying to understand themselves more profoundly. The telling was grounded and done with humour handling a serious set of themes in a personable, friendly, warm and practical way. Well done.

Story
When her six-year-old daughter found her collapsed on the kitchen floor, Rachel had no idea how much her life was about to change. A brain scan revealed a dark shadowy mass, a huge abnormal growth of tissue that, whilst benign, was still growing and would surely kill her. It was too big to operate on. It needed to be "managed", and Rachel had, at best, two years to live. Refusing to accept the bleak prognosis, Rachel was determined to stay alive.

Anxiety and loneliness are on the rise, with 77% of our population experiencing physical symptoms of stress on a regular basis. We feel pressure chasing careers, security, and keeping up. We worry about health, politics, and many other complexities we can't control. Eventually, we find our minds spinning, trying to cope or manage a low hum of anxiety, unlike ever before.

Story
What happens when you realize you’ve had the career of your dreams, but you don’t have the life of your dreams? This was the stark reality facing Sheri Salata when she left her 20-year stint at The Oprah Winfrey Show, Harpo Studios, and the OWN network. She had dedicated decades to her dream job, and loved (almost) every minute of it, but had left the rest of her life gathering dust on the shelf. After years of telling other people’s makeover stories, Sheri decided to “produce” her own life transformation.
