Publisher's summary

The battle for Sparta has begun.

Logan Brannigan has taken back his father’s name and now he and Wholesale Slaughter fight to reclaim his father’s throne.

But deposing the traitor, Rhianna Hale, without bringing all of Sparta into a bloody and divisive civil war won't be easy. And while the Spartans fight among themselves, vultures circle, waiting for their chance to claim what’s left.

When former allies are forced into opposing sides, who can Logan trust to have his back...and who will deliver the Judas kiss?

Keeps up the suspense

This entry keeps up the suspense of the series. The ending really leaves you wanting the next one but isn't (quite) a cliffhanger.

Soooo exciting...

Well, Logan is finally going to get his position as Guardian of Sparta back, but at what cost? While he was on a planet meeting with Anders and Hale, the Jeuta nuked Logan's homeworld where his pregnant wife, Katy, waited for him.

Now, to see what happens in the last book of the series.

No romance and the F-bomb was used34 times.

As for the narration: Marc Vietor continued with his awesome narration in this book, too.

final nail

I was really exited about this series for the first 3 books, as it fit really well with playing the Battletech game. I saw it as a great advantage of the series that it did not involve standard religions, but Rick had to fuck that up and started inserting Christianity into the story, because of course he had to. But here in book 5 it's gone over to straight up christian propaganda.

"she had been very circumspect about trying to share her families' faith with Logan, knowing how intertwined the office of the guardian was with the state religion.

I think, he replied, that maybe what Sparta needs is an old faith, a real faith that people stuck with even when they could be jailed or killed for believing in it, to give the them strength in a time when the institutions they trust have betrayed them.

are you sure about that, she grabbed his hand and clutched it tight, you've got enough to overcome just to take down Hale without starting a religious revolution too." etc. etc.

And listeners! This book is so full questionable scenarios even after granting some poetic license. Leaving enemies alive behind you for no reason? Really twisted logic in the ship hijacking scenario all to make something come together but not in this book, not that I found at least and then a typical Jordan ending to the book. Bah. I am done here
