Publisher's summary

Afeclin walked nervously to the entry of the cottage. He held his breath as he passed over the threshold. A little cradle was the only piece of furniture left in the building. Afeclin touched the cradle delicately with one finger. All of a sudden he fell backward onto the floor as an image of the fire burst into his mind…. He had seen a horrified face that screamed amongst red hot flames.

Found beyond the Elvin borders, Afeclin, a human child, is taken in and raised by an Elvin King. Now grown and longing to learn about the mystic arts, he embarks on a journey back into a land now unfamiliar. Accompanied by his elvin friend, Wolflang, they leave their homes to seek out their destiny. Unbeknown to Afeclin and Wolflang however, the warlord, Moorlan and his confederate, a dark mage, are preparing to bring war to the peaceful Land of Marrapassa, putting their lives and those they care about, in danger.

Beautifully Written

The unusual friendship between a human and an elf is all the story needs. We’re not saving the world here, we get a rich and relatable experience. Love it!

Character Driven and Worth a Listen

Journey of Destiny is precisely what is claims to be… a journey. It focuses on the relationships, dreams, and shortcomings of the characters as they venture far from the safety of home. While there are plenty of foes and allies to be met along the way, driving the story forward, the emphasis lies more on character than plot.

The world building is sweeping and gives the book the grandeur of a classic epic fantasy while also feeling like a cozy coming of age tale. In perfect sync with the writing, the narration balances on the line between classic and fresh. There is something familiar about Paul Metcalfe’s narration style, giving the impression of an old friend telling you a story that always needed to be told. His characterization is lively and varied, reminding the listener that this story is all about the people we meet throughout the pages.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening and am left wondering what comes next for our young explorers as they seek out their destinies.
