About this listen
Jonah is one of the great stories in the Bible. Join Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy as he tells this story as no one else can! When God commands Jonah to go to Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian empire, and preach against it, Jonah heads in the exact opposite direction—to Tarshish, in Spain! Follow the adventure as a huge storm tosses Jonah’s ship, the sailors hurl Jonah overboard and a huge fish swallows him! In one of the most fantastic journeys in the Bible, Jonah finally does go to Nineveh, and the Ninevites do indeed repent. Find out why Jonah is so angry when they do, and find out why Jesus says that no sign will be given to the people of Israel in his day, except “the sign of the prophet Jonah.”

Story
Although the primary meaning of what a prophet says always emerges from the historical context in which he writes, what he says will sometimes foreshadow messianic or eschatological (“end time”) events. It is our responsibility as educated readers of Scripture to determine when such foreshadowing occurs and when it does not.

Editorial reviews
In this installment of Dr. Bill Creasey's popular Logos Bible Study series, the man who has been called "a Bible teacher extraordinaire" delivers a live lecture on the biblical prophet Jonah. Creasey launches with the question "Did Jonah really exist?" and the discussion only gets more interesting from there. Using personal anecdotes about scuba diving, references to Moby Dick, and always a thorough knowledge of Scripture, Creasey deepens a listener's understanding of these biblical verses and proves himself a true teacher.
Creasey holds a PhD in English literature and has taught the Bible for decades both at UCLA and with Logos Bible Study. Listeners are recommended to follow along with their own Bibles.

I Loved this reading of Jonah!!
I loved Dr. Creasy's take on the story of Jonah, I loved the overall message that God is God of everyone, and I especially l loved that Dr. Creasy did NOT portray God as punishing Jonah.

Sounds fishy...
I'm concerned that his theory that Jonah was dead inside of the fish is a pretty big stretch of the truth. It breaks several of the rules of interpretation including taking things out of context and not conforming to the overall theme of the Bible.

Great Lecture!
This is another great lecture from Dr. Bill Creasy. He is always incredibly insightful and engaging. He often supplements the material with personal stories which are relevant and interesting. He has taken several trips to Israel and the Middle East where he visits the locations depicted in the Bible and he shares those first hand accounts which enables him to take you back to that point in time that the scripture is talking about.
