Publisher's Summary

The heartwarming true story of a blind horse named Joey

At the height of his show career, this beautiful Appaloosa's majestic stature, strength, and willingness to work made him the perfect partner. But when an injury cost Joey his show career, he moved from one owner to the next, ultimately experiencing severe abuse and neglect. A rescue group found Joey nearly dead from starvation - and blind.

Then he came to Hope Reins - a ranch dedicated to helping hurting kids who had been abused, emotionally wounded, or unwanted. By teaching these children to care for rescued animals, the Hope Reins staff were convinced they could reach kids with love and hope and show them that we are never forgotten by God.

But could the financially struggling ranch afford to take care of a blind horse that no one else wanted? Could Joey somehow learn to trust people even though the world had hurt him so badly? And what would happen - to Joey, the kids, and Hope Reins - if they failed?

A true story of friendship destined to become a classic, Joey will touch your heart and reveal the power of finding light in the darkness.

Why Joey will always touch people’s hearts and lead them blindly into faith

There was almost nothing I didn’t like about Joey, the only thing that I didn’t like was how sad it made me when the book ended. It was a continuous cycle of “worry and trust” when things seemed too sad to be happening. Although that seemed to be a reason why it was so heart warming.

It wouldn’t have made me reevaluate my life in such a meaningful way if I hadn’t seen the picture of a beautiful spotted horse in the window of a small shop at the airport and immediately tapped my mom’s shoulder about the book, I never would have experienced the joy reading/listening to this audiobook brought me.And coming from something that I loved more than anything, (horses) it was especially meaningful.
Even if you don’t ride, or have any particular connection with horses, this book will still reach out to your heart and make you wish you knew Joey personally.

I think this book is good for...

#1. Horse people

#2. Church book groups

#3. Anyone wanting a book with a good plot, a horse, and most of all oodles of love

#4. Kids who aren’t 1 2 3 or 4 years old

#5. Adults wanting a book that reassures them there is a god that cares very much about them and a horse heaven

P.S. this whole thing was written by a ten-year-old!

Touching story

This was a wonderful, thought-provoking story about a wonderful therapeutic riding program and one of its foundation horses, Joey. It is a story about how God uses the weak things of the world to teach profound truths.

Beautiful!

I have no words to adequately describe how this book touched my heart. it's written in such way that you feel like you've gotten to know each individual, personally. I shared their joys, triumphs, and sorrows with them and I loved being drawn into the heart of God through their stories.

Tear jerker

I loved every minute of this book. I listened to it in the carpool line waiting to pickup my grandkids. I had to wear sunglasses even on rainy days and used a box of Kleenex. Well written and well narrated. I want to go visit this ranch. God’s love!!

Too much religion. Ugh.

I just wanted to enjoy a horse story, not get a Sunday school lesson. C’mon, one or two opinionated references to god is tolerable but by Chapter 2, I couldn’t listen anymore. Ridiculous amount of references to god. Felt like an indoctrination.

A few touching scenes padded with awful filer

Touching stories about helping troubled kids are ruined by tedious dialogue, extraneous description; yecch.

Touching book

Such an emotional book that brought understanding and reflection on my own life. Living only 40 min from the ranch I hate I was never able to meet the amazing horse who touched so many lives.
