Can a broken hero get a second chance at life and love?

Once known as the Iron Eagle of the skies, Eli, a former military hero, now spends his time drowning his regrets in alcohol - until a woman challenges what’s left of his pride.

Yvette, a human with a mission, drags Eli from his pit of misery with a plea he can’t ignore: The world needs you.

And Eli needs something to help him move past grief and guilt.

What this shifter doesn’t expect as he regains his feathery courage, is to fall in love.

But will he have a chance at a happily ever after given the threat facing the world?

Time to be a hero one last time.

I think I like the romances better than the paranormal books, although sometimes they are good together. This one leaned a little too far into military and paranormal aspects than it did into the romantic parts. In other words, I did not find this book too romantic. Not my thing.

The military aspect was a bit strange. The FMC was the colonel, in charge of the squadron, and the MMC was under her in rank, in that squadron. Can't put my finger on it, but I'm not sure how well that was handled, in the relationship.

My last critical point is that emotional intelligence and emotional skills kept being belittled (quite literally sometimes), in favor of the militaristic "logic only" and "all emotion must be shut down." I found that very strange. I also believe humans have a spiritual intelligence, and that was also set aside, as if pure masculine logic brain power is the best solution for everything. And that was from the woman! I just call bullshit on all that mind set.

But I did like how Yvette (the colonel) rescued Eli (the captain) from addiction and brought him back to a meaningful life. The reader can tell his strength of character was always there, but had gone dormant. Good to see him return.

I just finished the Kodiak Point series--which I enjoyed--and this book just barely ties in with it. Eve Langlais tells about the more relevant series (Dragon Point) at the end of this book. As a follower of the Kodiak Point clan, it was not very satisfying.

I enjoyed Langlais' Growl and Prowl series too.

Strangely handled military situation & premise

I read the entire Dragon Point series before this book and recommend it. This is a great book involving one possible ending of the world scenario. Shows how some times we are our own worst enemies and inadvertently punish ourselves for circumstances beyond our control. Shows redemption from below your lowest point to meeting your biggest dreams. Good book and great series ending.

Read Bitten Point, Kodiak Point, and then this book
