Publisher's summary

Introducing Sociology makes the learning of the foundations of sociology fun and easy in a easy-to-listen book. Through this book, you will gain an understanding of the dynamic forces that shape personalities and socialize people into the larger culture within which we live. With a modern take, you’ll not only learn about how traditional institutions such as the family and schools shape society but also come away informed about how mass media, including social media networks like Facebook and YouTube, are socializing our children and providing new means of interpersonal mass communication never seen before.

Learn the foundational principles that lie behind sociology including:

  • The history of sociology and key figures in its early development.
  • The key role of the immediate family as the primary agent of socialization.
  • How children are socialized into the larger society.
  • The role played by the secondary family as an agent of civilization.
  • Mass communication and old and new mass media.
  • The growing role of social media networks as agents of socialization.
  • How technology is changing mass media.
  • Youth culture and the importance of peer groups.
  • Schools, education, and society, and the three main sociological theories of education.

Section on mass media.

Very informative. When you've been away from the world of Sociology, it's always a good idea to brush up on the basics.

Redundant material

The book not written well. The same information repeated several times. The book did not present a thorough knowledge of Sociology.

Nope!

I found this hard to listen to, narrator is awful. Besides, content was too basic for me.

Have a discussion with your friends!

This book summarizes homo sapiens and homo deus while providing us with projections into the future, which is bleak to say the least. Maybe it is time to read some of Dickens’. Maybe we all turn out to be luddites at a certain stage in our lifetimes. I like this writer, pushing me to acknowledge I have no idea what will happen to us all.

Important criticism of our short-sightedness

This is not only entertaining, but informative. A very wide assortment of topics were covered in this book.

Thinking about Matrix

I appreciated how he broke down beliefs systems with unabashed criticisms. As well as paying homage to the benefits they provide to our societies. I found myself losing interest around chapter 15 only because I knew there were so many more to go and the material was quite dense. But I was rewarded for forging on.

Should be explore by everyone in my opinion.

It really makes you think about all the stores that you walk into with more self-checkouts than cashiers rumbas vacuuming your home when you're not there and self driving cars. I'm very curious to see what all of this will eventually evolve into

Excellent and ever so relevant!

A spectacular lesson! Should be listen by everyone in my opinion. If you’re too busy at the moment then once every week and if not once per week then once per month ... etc.

Hands down one of my favorite author!

Modern day historian. Loved both his books. This is the second one of the three. He’s always so neutral on every topic he talks on. Never leans for one side over the other. But with the goal of breaking it down for the general population to really understand.
