Publisher's Summary

I'm not like the vampires in your books, little girl. I'm not agonizing over my own soul or the ethics of drinking your blood. I don't want saving or to find some great love that will alter my very existence. I'm not a monster. I'm the devil himself, and I have no problem playing that role. I take what I want, and right now, what I want is you. And there's nothing you can do to stop me.

The Elite is a PNR series of novelettes.

Not your sparkly vampires!

This is one dark vampire story. The entire time, he’s either planning to drain her dry, or deliberating if/when to kill her. She’s utterly enthralled, but still completely aware of the danger, which makes it even darker. This is a short story (1 hour 31 min), and is a serial within a series, so there’s no resolution at the end of this book. Debbie Soelter’s reading of the story is at times stilted and overly breathy, but Everett and Farah’s voices sound distinctly different, which is appreciated.

Slowly Building the Tension

Title: instinct
Author: Hanleigh Bradley
Format: Audio
Narrator: Debbie Soelter
Genre: Paranormal romance (vampire)
Standalone: no
Part of a Series: book 1 of The Elite
POV: Everette, Farah
Steam Level: warm
3.5/5

Instinct is the first novella of The Elite. It’s short, only about an hour and a half long. The pace is slow, Allowing the tension to build. Both Everette and Farah are fighting themselves and their instincts - Farah to flee and Everette yo not play with his food. Debbie Soelter’s narration is soft and slow, adding to and enhancing the anticipation that Hanleigh Bradley has created. Overall Instinct is a great, but slow, start that leaves you wanting more.

Good Dark Short

This was a very short dark vampire tale. He is dark and dangerous and all he wants is to kill her. She is a human and should run from him far and fast because he wants her dead. You can feel something building between them as they fight what they feel, he still wants her dead. She seems a bit clueless at times but takes his crap. I enjoyed the narrator for this book. I am looking forward to the next book.

A romantic short story

the story itself was well written and i liked the characters but this should have been longer and more complete. its like once the story truly got started the book was over. I personally feel it could have been one book. if you like a quick read or a story spread out over multiple books then this is the book for you.

Amazing and Captavating

I loved everything about this book. It had me hooked from the prologue, I couldn't stop listening to it for a moment. I loved how it went between the main characters point of view, that really kept me on my toes. Overall this was an amazing book and I can't wait to listen to the second one.

Great vampire story

I love the way the story gives the vampire an almost human like demeanor and it is very well told by the narrator

An intriguing introduction

This was a short and intriguing introduction to a new world where Vampires are real and in control of the world. I'd be interested in seeing how this develops as we see the start of an obsession that may transform into love, but in characters who are so devoid of humanity that they claim no capacity for such tender feelings.

I'd be interested in exploring more of this world.

A short but decent vampire series

He the vampire has no sorrys about biting others or killing and is actually refreshing as far as a change in the normal attitude of most romance /action/adventure/mystery vampire series these days. Not to say that I prefer the difference but it was nice as a change up. Also I never listened to before such a short audiobook but it actually nice and I enjoyed it. I love the narrator especially with the male voices.

Great short listen

Everette isn’t like other vampires he’s a monster and he’s not afraid to let his victims know. That’s until he meets Farah and he changes the way he’s always done things.
Great short listen and looking forward to more in the series .

One Night Stand, Forever

My first vampire book, not sure what to think because in my opinion being a short story it all happens to fast, boy sees girl, next thing bed, well near enough, I find it hard to take in as i don’t think it shows women in a good light, but I think I need to get into the characters better. Time will tell,
I found the narrator for me destroyed the story, the portrayal of the male voice was cringe worthy and the fast, slow way the narrator spoke I didn’t enjoy, but I can shut this out and concentrate on the story.
On too the next book to try and understand better.

Loved the perspective

Loved the way this was written. wished the narrator used another voice for the H. I could hardly hear what he was saying half the time, especially when I was listening while driving. Sorry the book was so short and it ended to be continued so that was a bit sad, but I'm looking forward to the next one and hope it has more story.

Enjoyable Instinct

Instinct, the first instalment in the Elite series is a delightful paranormal romance novella. The premise is interesting about a vampire who is obsessed with a human woman. The characters are charming, and the dual point-of-view allows an insight into their thoughts and emotions. I didn't fully connect with the characters, mainly due to the length of the audiobook. Also, of note, that the story ends in a cliffhanger.

Debbie Shelter's performance was great. She has a beautiful voice, I just wished she used a different tone for her portrayal of Everette. Overall, this was an enjoyable audiobook and will listen to the next series.
